View Full Version : Jobs for the expat pilot's WAGs?
Arrowhead 8th Mar 2012, 23:31 Does anyone know of expat pilots WAGs (wives and/or girlfriends) getting jobs at the airport in HKG? I have a native UK WAG (so no Canto/Mandarin) who wants a job, but should she even bother trying? If so, where?
We have kids, so part-time would be better...
Thx
broadband circuit 9th Mar 2012, 00:51 Be careful of a certain CX training manager who seems to have a thing for junior pilots' wives. Then when he gets caught, he threatens said pilot that he will screw his career if the matter gets pushed too far.
badairsucker 9th Mar 2012, 03:39 She could always become a sim instructor!
I see a S/O wife who has a very limited amount of flying experience(no jet time) has become an airbus sim instructor.
But Cx like it because no need to pay housing.

Short answer:
NO
Long Answer:
Where the hell was Henry the morals campaigner when we needed him? I accept that these things happen between consenting adults all the time, but it was not the victim who introduced the work angle, it was the perpetrator who introduced it as a threat.
Not only does this poor young guy have to live with the humiliation of what happened, but to add insult to injury, that miserable little worm threatened the poor guy's job.
Put simply the message is "I can f&%k your wife, and if you get upset I can f&%k your career as well"
What a fine upstanding example of leadership.
So, to answer your original question: NO!

That's very harsh and unfair. Why would you get pleasure from making such a public statement, while hiding behind anonymity?
Cathay has hired lots of pilots over the years with only turboprop time (maybe you were one of them). The simulator instructors course is very intense, more so if you're new to Cathay and the Airbus. She's actually done quite well. Shame you can't see that.
If you're not in training already Mr. Air Sucker, then you should take one step forward. They could do with your wisdom and understanding.
VforVENDETTA 9th Mar 2012, 20:51 As if whether or not one has a hard time getting through qualifications at this place means a f'ing thing anyway. There's no consistency and no efficiency with any of it. If I had a dollar for each time I flew with a high jet time/military/fighter time type who was a pathetic performer, it would equal the same amount as the low/non/no military types would anyway.
Sir KDM Lowe 9th Mar 2012, 22:28 Couldn't agree more. "Heavy jet time" or "twin aisle time" blah blah blah. We really are a bunch of morons. It's just willy waving in the bar. And it comes from all backgrounds, not just military.
Give me someone who is professionally competent and more importantly, pleasant to work with. Previous experience isn't really relevant, as long as you have some.
broadband circuit 10th Mar 2012, 00:34 I almost agree with you Sir KDM & Vfor, however you forgot to give a big thumbs up to our long sleeve captain brigade. Without those wonderful chaps, the standard throughout the company would be simply appalling. And I'm not just talking about their superb flying skills, their examples of CRM & team building are a wonderful example to the rest of us mere mortals. Plus, the way that they are always giving positive encouragement to us new lads, and letting us have lots of sectors, it's just a splendid delight to watch.

If she has any flight Attendant experience? There are jobs going for western corporate flight attendants (the truly rich don't want them to speak Chinese)
There are 5 major jet Managment companies in HK.
Good luck..... It's not easy, but a happy WAG.... Happy life.

Why is that harsh and unfair? It's the truth. As with regard to anonymity, I don't see you first in line to expose your true identity.

You seem to lack the ability to read between the lines my friend.
Yes CX has employed lots of PILOTS with different levels of experience as they train them up through the course of many years, gaining experience and then in some 15 years or so they are in a position to TRAIN others!!!!!!!!
Employing SIM INSTRUCTORS with very little experience and giving them a course is in my opinion not good enough. CX are in the process of reducing the terms and conditions of the pilots and we can all now see the problems facing the airline, now it seems CX are doing the same with the sim instructors.
For all of you that have missed the point and started talking about willy waving, single isle v wide body, jet time v turboprop time it's all irrelevant. I am talking about the quality/experience we have in the sim instructor department. On my fleet we have a super bunch of sim instructors with heaps of experience and they are in a position to help train JF/O on their upgrade course, guys coming from other fleets, command upgrades, RT sessions and so on. I for one would not want to have a sim instructor with zero jet time teaching me how to fly a jet, simple.
They could do with your wisdom and understanding.
Well if you think it's wisdom and understanding to be employing inexperienced staff than god help us all.
Arrowhead 11th Mar 2012, 03:09 Back to the thread - thanks for the PMs of sensible ideas.
Sorry to hijack the tread, but I would also be interested in any responses to the same question. We are without the kids so full time would also be an option.
Cheers
