Western Australia AME apprenticeships

Hi All

Know a few companies putting on apprentices this year and there seems to be confusion with where they go to trade school . Its seems Polytechic West is not Part 145 accredited . Are other aviation companies sending apprentices over east for block release?

I know Polytechnic West has been changing over to the EASA system as far back as 2007 so I am concerned that we if put a young guy thru training and then it counts for nothing at the end. Heard rumour's that a few graduates recently have had a hard time getting accredited for licenses with CASA

If groups are sending apprentices across to the east how is funding arranged with the state government?. Sent an email and left two phone messages with Apprenticentre with no reply as yet.

Aeroskills apprenticeships are accredited under the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) (http://www.aqf.edu.au/). Refer AVI08 Aviation Training Package (http://training.gov.au/Training/Details/AVI08).

There are a number of approved Aviation RTO's in West Australia (http://training.gov.au/Search/SearchOrganisation?nrtCodeTitle=AVI08&scopeItem=TrainingPackage&tabIndex=1&ImplicitNrtScope=True&orgSearchByScopeSubmit=search).

If you have any questions on approved/accredited aviation training in West Australia, contact your Australian Apprentice Center (AAC) or State Training Authority.

CASA is the authority for AME licensing. They are not involve in aviation training.

Correction I meant Part 147

Sure there is plenty of aviation training providers in WA but only Polytechnic west does the Aeroskills course and being a non Part 147 MTO then surely they cant hold the new EASA exams . Of course the self study route is being taken away.


According to AC 147-2(0) DECEMBER 2011,APPROVED PART 147 TRAINING ORGANISATIONS the only maintenance training schools are:

List Of Maintenance Training Schools (MTO) for the Conduct of Category
and Subcategory Training

* Aerospace Training Services PO Box 379 Berry NSW 2535 3
* Aviation Australia
* Kangan Batman TAFE
* TAFE NSW South Western Sydney Institute
* Padstow TAFE

As is mentioned in the Part66 handbook :
"CASA Part 66 licences will be issued to individuals who have completed training and competency assessment by a CASR Part 147-approved MTO."
