Hi Guys,

Am weighing up purchase of Android tablet v iPad and am wondering if anybody can recommend useful aviation Apps for Android?

Would really appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.

Honestly, with apps like Ozrunways and Avplan out for the iPad, along with the myriad of other aviation and non aviation apps available for it, the iPad wins my vote hands down.

Hell, Ozrunways is the entire reason I brought an iPad

I have and use Android tablets for work and their sales are exponentially increasing
I really want to use Oz runways but cant justify the cost of an Ipad and data card just for this software
Keep pressure on the boys and maybe they will deliver the Android version soon

With the huge market share the iPad has, and strong acceptance within the aviation community, personally I wouldn't be expecting to see an Android version of anything useful.

Get the iPad :ok:

Jetjr, you only need a 3g iPad for Ozrunways, you don't need to have an active data plan as you can download all the maps through wifi.

Or if i'm not mistaken, you can get a non 3g iPad with a bluetooth gps.

But the 3g helps with using NAIPS etc on the run.

As a starting point there's AirspaceAVOID from PocketFMS:

AirspaceAVOID - Can you afford to fly without? (http://pocketfms.com/AirspaceAVOID/index.asp)

Naviator may also be worth a look, as it apparently has a global waypoint database, but I don't think uses official maps, rather integrates with OruxMaps.

Naviator :: The Navigation Solution for Android Aviators (http://www.naviatorapp.com/)

As far as I can tell so far, these are about the only Android moving map applications that are relevant to Australian airspace at this time.

There are a bunch of other Android apps for weather, weight & balance, electronic logbooks etc.

Has anyone in Australia tried out these Apps?
