"Guess thats the end of the Warthog then"

Hardly, they currently have a total of 16 A-10 squadrons. After this cut they will have 11. Not quite what I'd call the end.

The demise of the Warthog has been rumored for nigh on twenty years.

And it's still flying. Hallelujah! :ok:

Isn't it true that the A-10s are going thru a re-winging program right now - sounds like they are going to be around for some time...

Every 10 years the latest crop of the USAF fighter mafia try to kill the Warthog. Every 5 years the obvious requirement for the A 10 capability show how stupid, self serving and blinkered they are......

When the USAF finally gives up and parks the last F 35 I bet there will still be operational A 10's :E

Or bring back the 81st back to the UK? :ok:

Eleven A-10 squadrons seems like quite a lot. That's more squadrons of planes that can actually do fighting than there are in the entire British armed forces, isn't it?

Not for the first time, I'm forced toward the conclusion that the American populace is getting a much, much better deal than we are, and it makes me wonder why this is so. We seem to spend about 10% the amount, but get... well, er, one percent the capability.

Why is this?

Key areo reported ......
Boeing is under contract to deliver 233 wing sets through to 2018. “This enhanced wing assembly will give the A-10 new strength and a new foundation for its continued service into 2040,” said Mark Bass, Maintenance, Modifications & Upgrades vice president and general manager for Boeing Defense, Space & Security.

2040 and beyond probably , long live the warthog only wish we had some .

fallmonk: given that we have 16 squadrons and are going down to 11, maybe there is a used plane sale you could get the Parliament to investigate to get good capability at a low price?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
