Need Help SP pneumothorax

hi guys i really need some suggestions about this:

im currently holding a PPL/medclass2 license and certificate but my problem is recently i was diagnose with SP pneumothorax and was treated via chestube and chemical pleurodesis after a few months ( aprox. 2months) the pleurodesis failed.
after then the doctor told me to undergo surgery, its been 2 months from my last surgery..

i would just like to ask if there are any concerns if i will apply for class 1 medical certificate? is this a disqualifying circumstance?

I don't know what SP is

You cannot fly even as a passenger if this pathology is ongoing

Once the problem is properly resolved you will probably have to jump through hoops but first you must demonstrate there is no recurrence over a significant period of time

Spontaneous pneumothorax, a condition typically seen in tall, slim people usually in the age range of 20-40 years. Higher occurrences in men. Can reoccur at any time. When it occurs rapid treatment is often required.

Hi benjo13,

I had 3 spontaneous Pneumothorax's withing an approximate 12 month period 30 years ago (I was in my early 20's). It involved my right lung each time.

I had the chest drain tube a couple of times - a very unpleasant experience (but much more preferable to watching my son play pennant tennis sometimes :-) After the third one I had a surgical pleurodesis and have never had a problem since although the scar tissue is still evident I used to get the occasional twinge for 15-20 years later.

My aviation medical has no restrictions at all.

Good to know. I had my second one last week - my first one was in high school I think about 30 years ago...waiting for a specialist's visit then Transport Canada decision (drum roll....). Sounds like surgery is fairly successful so here's hoping!
