The old J-8 attitude indicator came up in a cockpit conversation recently about the Connistellation display that LH used to have in the Frankfurt airport. They used to have the aircraft itself outside (before its move to MUC) and downstairs inside the terminal they had a panel from one of the aircraft. It seems that the attitude indicator was a J-8 but I am not 100% sure.

Does anyone remember this indicator? Used it? Did LH use them in its Connies?

Of course the other pilot remarked that anyone who flew with a J-8 also probably knew what one meant is they said "fixed card..." !

Hey, the F-100D had the full deal--MM-3, ID-249 and ID-250. Pretty state of the art for the NDB penetration back in the day. The MM-3 wasn't terribly large and at 170 knots on final, fine corrections to the ILS were a treat also.

These 'primitive' instrument arrays, of necessity, produced some pretty good instrument pilots...'natural selection' on occasion unfortunately weeding out the less skillful.

Strewth, there!
