It has been recognized that measured friction coefficients are reliable only for some type of contaminants.

For this reason today is very common to find 99 or // in the related METAR codes for some Countries.

I know that braking action must always be considered as "poor" when 99 code is present and according Company policy flight cannot be dispatched with braking action "poor".

What if code // is reported.... do I have to consider "poor" as well ?

Thanks

Our guidance specifically warns *against* trying to correlate friction readings with braking action.

After all, one, as you say, is a scientific measure of friction under certain conditions.

The other is a subjective report received by a specific type of airliner. Your results may vary.

Again, experience and judgment are more important than an individual report. You must consider all information when making these decisions.
