I can't find a thread on this subject but if there has been one then perhaps someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction.
My question is " What modern weapons would be used for breaching a dam given that the bouncing bomb is not available?"

I think a hydrogen bomb might do the trick:ok:

One of the deep penetrating bombs; I think BW first idea was to use such a weapon but at that stage of the war there wasn't a big enough bomber to carry such a thing.

One of these would do:

Same weight as an empty Lanc. Might have a bit of a problem in the second segment!

Loadtoad,
You forget designed by Barnes Wallis, Tallboy and Grand Slam, the former by 9 & 617 Squadrons for the Tirpitz raid, and Grand Slam for he Bielfeldt Viaduct raid by 617 Squadron using modified Lancasters.
Today, Mop, even Strom Shadow/Scalp/Black Shaheen could be used, ALCM is possible.

No I didn't forget. Later in the war the Lancaster could carry such a weapon - when he originally had the idea for bombing dams and similar other targets there was no such bomber - IIRC he started design work for a Victory Bomber to carry the weapons he was designing: Victory Bomber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Bomber)
