Some great shots there, thanks for posting.

I do like the shiny F-86!

Yes, fighters always looked good in that natural finish, especially the Lightning.

Seems strange to see the crowds up close to operational aircraft, in fact it looks like the only real restrictions were around the captured enemy aircraft!

Great photos, always very evocative when shot by 'normal' photographers somehow. Also great to see the public and how they are attired and behaving, a nice slice of life from yesteryear.

A mixture of the old and the new with the B47 and the Shackleton.

The B47 first flew in December 1947; the Shackleton in March 1949.

Where the hell is the Lightning???
The first Lightning squadron (74) only got the aircraft in July, 1960. By September I doubt whether it would have been a practical proposition to send aircraft away from Coltishall for "other" B-of-B displays; we certainly didn't see any at Chivenor.

Where the hell is the Lightning???

Sorry! I wasn't implying that there was a photo of one, just making a general comment.

As great as the a/c look in the shots, it's the people that caught my eye. 1960 looks like 1950 the way people are dressed.

Men in baggy suits, women in hats and boys in school uniform including shorts.

Priceless:ok:

Arrived at Finningley Sept '63 just in time for my first BoB there, so expected to see at least a glimpse of a Vulcan. We had lots by then - B1's and B2's.
