G'day ,

I got a letter a while ago to re apply CX in 12 months time. I want to find out from guys who have had a shot at it one more time and how did they go with their reapplication. Were they finally successful in their ventures or yet another letter saying thanks but no thanks.

I would really appreciate any thoughts on this guys. Please share your thought and experience and whether or not I should go for the next round again or forget all about it and move on .

Cheers

A lot of guys took 2 shots to get in, just like a lot of guys take 2 shots at a command just like a lot of guys took 2 attempts to get into the NASA shuttle programme.
But dont worry, it's worth the wait :E

Wow, you must be really bad not to get in to CX these days. After having the pleasure of sitting next to some of the new icadets for a few hours, I thought that they would give a job to anyone that could count to 10.*

Under the experiace section did you say that you once flew as a passenger?

Thanks for your comment frogman, I actually aced the sim ride and the interview but still got the no. I dont know what they were looking at when I was being Interviewed. Thats another story.

I am speechless as to find out how these Icadets monkey get in and while guys like us who has done the hard yard and still being turned down.

What do they really want from you .

While you are at it frogman i had friends who are flyinbg corporate jets and Single Pilot Turrbines ove 5700 kg didnt make the cut and i betcha they were very qualified to do the job of an FO or may be a captain in the near future.

Therefore you should find urself very lucky that u got in Frogman.

Oz, take a look in the mirror. Unless you have blonde hair, blue eyes & white skin, they will never take a really close look at you. Mate of mine failed four attempts. They only looked at him again because of reasonable connections who tried to convince the Board that he was , probably, more of a Brit than the Queen ! Last two attempts it was the Medical Board that failed him even though the London Medical Board gave him an A1 and and issued him with a Class one, unrestricted , HK Certificate. That was the old CX which, he felt, was worth the effort. Forget the CX of today. Look elsewhere.

slowjet:---- crap. We already have quite a few non-Anglo Saxon looking chaps in our ranks. Word on the street is that recruitment are carefully checking out the sub continent as we speak.............

Messiah,

Mate, U have to grow UP and understand just one thing. Not everybody is as superior as you are. It's normal to be subjective. Leave the guy with his view on it. Go beat somebody at your own size. ;-) ha ha

If you aced the sim and interview you would have a job right now!
Maybe your idea of perfection is different from theirs. Trust me when I say that your whole career at Cathay will be like this.

Lately they have been having a lot of problems with some of the young new joiners. Perhaps they are looking for a bit more mature \ older cadets.

Maybe this is a sign for you to look at a proper contract somewhere else. This might be a blessing in disguise!

I've heard a lot of bad stuff about the current recruiting of flying ace's for Cathay Pathetic.
Lots and lots of the superior senior check&training captains are not happy with the juniors joining the team. The standards have come down, they say. It is no longer, like 3 centuries ago when they joined, "The Right Stuff" that is boarding the Cathay cruiser. Ah well what can I say. Things will never be the same. :}

Well back to the topic.
If I was you I would forget all about CX. It's not a fun place flying anyways, mate. As somebody else correctly said, they may just have done you a favor by turning you down.
In Cathay to many Willy w@<hidden>'s combat in screwing up the fun of flying. You are the hamster and you will be doing the running. Little boys with big toys and a board of w@<hidden> getting together deciding on you future. Naa.. Stay clear of them - go to Jetstar or something respectable. :ok:

Thanks Yeager.
I am actually doing exactly as told.Just joined a good regional company and keep tracking for few good years and apply VA , Jetstar etc.

Once again thanks everyone for all your thoughts. appreciate it.

There you go Oz, you just proved how smart you are by not moving to HK and not pursuing a " career " with CX, well done that man :ok:

OZ... I wouldn't lose to much sleep over it. A job interview is very subjective, a large proportion plays down to if the interviewing captain likes you or not. Some may call it luck whist I call it possibility.

Since the introduction of international cadet, the standard has indeed come down, however, as the cadet selection goes, their expectation varies with your level of experience. So there are a lot more ways to screw up in the interview for an experienced guy than one with no experience as the questions get harder.

If you want to apply again, apply. If you don't then don't. Just don't base it on the negativity of this forum. Think for yourself, my friend.

Giddy mate :8

Wouldn't be surprised that you were "too good" (or too experienced) to be a SO.

Happened to a mate of mine. Went for a SO interview. According to him, his interview and sim were very good, got the letter to reapply in 12 months. Did just that, and after another interview, they offered him a DEFO spot.
Or maybe they want to check if you're really motivated.
