Does anyone know if during the A&P oral & practical exam, can you bring along and refer to references, such as AC43 or some form of text book?

Off topic a bit, what public transport is available from LAX to Avtech-Exams at Riverside?
Tried a few searches, it's either the more expensive shuttle vans (around US$ 110 one way!) or public busses, which you need to do almost 5 transfers, and total time can be almost 5 hours!
Any other options? Any LA residents can help out with some info? Also are the services 24/7?

In my experience it was an oral and practical. During the oral portion the DME will ask enough questions to allow a 70% pass (his discretion as to the time frame if you blew the first allotment , he can keep going). The practical was simple, general, airframe and exhibition of power plant knowledge. No books to my memory.

Generally, if the DME feels you have the knowledge and experience he will work with you through the foolish questions of antiquated processes in the A&P syllabus.

Oral was a question and answer session covering the 3 disciplines - no books.

Practical was based on accomplishing simple tasks in all 3 disciplines, the only books we used were the approved tech manuals associated to the aircraft we were working on.
