Anyone flown (civil) to here? Agreed it's not on the beaten track (350nm NE of Iceland). :O

Fly safe, Sam.

No. I think a Herc goes in there once every 6 months to resupply the Norwegian military / weather station that is based there. (I know people who were based there in the Noggie military).

Interesting destination!

If you haven't already found it, there are some contact details here (http://home.online.no/~vteigen/faq.html) and here. (http://www.jan-mayen.no/visit.htm)

Not me, for one. She really in the ICAO directory? Must be impressive then, one way or another...

It wil probably be an uphill struggle as it seems to be a military airport. The runway looks decent enough.

The FotoNord company apparently landed a Piper Navajo there in June 2005. So it's not impossible.

Thanks for all of that, difficult is okay - impossible takes a little longer.

I'll post back here once I have some more info - but it looks like a great place to visit if you like 'out of the way'.

Fly safe, Sam.

I share your interest in these odd destinations. So I Googled it some more and found this 2010 expedition report.

Jan Mayen Arctic Expedition 2010 (http://arctic2010.wordpress.com/page/2/)

They used a Twin Otter out of Iceland operated by Norlandair. Contacting them would probably be the quickest way to get some info.

So far, they're saying 'no', but it's a work in progress! :)
