At stations where SMART and Servisair run side-by-side, i.e Liverpool, Glasgow - how does the operation run ? Are they totally separate or do they share Operations, ramp equipment etc...

Speed bird. Is this the same "watch out for big changes later this year " at BRS you posted last year in 2011? What was it in 2011 then?? Where is jet2 this winter at BRS to also? BJL was it? :ok:

speedbird_481_papa
6th Mar 2012, 08:56
Well to be honest with you jet2 was kind of a false promise. Menzies have handled them a couple of times but it is for the one off ad-hoc charters or diverts, no actual propper flights. So yes you have every right to question me what with it seeming like de javu from last year, but apparently BMI regional are starting flights to Germany soon and Servisair apparently have not been awarded the contract. So unless a new handler is coming in, which I would seem it unlikely, then there is only Menzies left.

Airstart2012
6th Mar 2012, 12:23
I see :) although apparently when MZ got the BMI baby contract SA retained the the BMI Mainline and Regional contract. So the contacts are already in place? There was talk of BD to FRA and HAM but I didn't think they came to fruition? So nothing confirmed though? it will be good for some German routes from BRS :) so let's see :ok:

Lots of rumours flying around Manchester Airport at the moment.

Servisair lose the TCX contract to Swissport at the end of the month and there's rumours BA will be switching to Menzies soon. With the upcoming Servisair redundancies I fear it may be true :{

Will it be a case of being tupe'd to menzies along with the product?

kazzie
9th Mar 2012, 10:15
Bigblue... Its going to be a Crazy year at GLA...

Being that Menzies Staff are to be tuped to Smart and I'm guessing Servisair BA product staff to Menzies.. With any luck there will be no one out of a job considering no airlines have gone under this time. There work is still there with airlines only expanding from GLA rather then ditching. We will all be somewhere come the winter, But which uniform?. Who knows. Things will be ok (I hope) :)

I don't know if it's been announced, but I believe Menzies have bought out 'Flight Support' at MAN.

Also noticed 4 brand new Swissport hi-lo's on the M56 heading for MAN. They've got a fair bit of brand new equipment stored over near the hangars, I assume for the TCX contract which goes over to them on Saturday.

More redundancies announced at Servisair, the ship is sinking

Looks like ramp is going to be outsourced yet handling remains in house but downsized? Anyone confirm?

Probably too risky to transfer all functions in one go, i.e Ops, Dispatch and check-in functions as these require a lot more systems training. The day will come though.

Trial run before outsourcing LHR?

yotty
12th Apr 2012, 10:36
I think Aircraft Handling is going too. Engineering is spared along with a significant number of check in personnel. TRMs are going as well. Allegedly cost savings are 22% to 40% per annum. Cuts effective from November 2012.

MD11Man
12th Apr 2012, 16:26
Not wanting to disrepect any TRM, some of em get paid more than a new FO just out of flight training, having to pay the bank whoknowshowmuch.

As bad as it may feel for lots of people, somewhere, commercially, it might make sense?!

tomkins
13th Apr 2012, 11:27
With all due respect, why should a TRM not get paid more than a new out of training FO.He/she has probably many years with the company, much experience and heavy responsibilities in his job,and he will not be earning the salary that the FO will be earning once he has gained a bit of experience.

MD11Man
13th Apr 2012, 12:12
Make your 'a bit' about 7 years and then we might find an agreement.

As I said, no disrespect to any TRM - if you're in the board of a company and find out outsourcing it might save you 20-40%, why would you not?

tomkins
13th Apr 2012, 12:43
Over a 45 year career 7 years is a bit IMHO.I was just addressing the point that you seem to think that a new out of training fo has some great value .You are of course right that outsourcing would appear to be a great cost reducing excercise for management, however this slash and burn policy that seems to be going on at LGW will touch the lives of all other BA workers including pilots ,terms and conditions for all are on a downward slide, appart from those few people put there to carry out this business who will be taking home a nice little bonus once the job done, which will no doubt be in six figures.

Bigbluebroxi
13th Apr 2012, 17:36
Yet again the ground staff are getting shafted in the airport world.

Its an absolite farce the level of pay that folk are expected to work for when you see the level of responsibility placed on their shoulders, especially a TRM/TRC/Dispatcher.

£6.80 p/h. An absolute abomination.

MD11Man
13th Apr 2012, 21:47
tomkins,

I fully agree with what you say about 6 figure people at the top deciding on how much pilots get. Also, I don't think every new FO is a fantastic addition to a company - maybe I'm thinking that somewhere, far away, it's 'meant to be' like that after haven taken the biggest financial risk in a (young?) life.

On the other hand... 6.80/hr?! Where do you get that from, if I may ask, Bigbluebroxi?

No not the mail planes anymore, Bristol Airport got rid of them! Its a B737 ad-hoc charter we are going to be operating for business passengers flying out on conferences and European meetings etc and if another airline sub-charters them. Not much, but still something extra :ok:

750XL

Considering the state of Servisair management, both locally at Manchester and regionally its no surprise we're losing contracts left right and centre :{ 'Cutting back' on things like general staff to ridiculous numbers that can't support the flights we have meanwhile not a single person from management has been up for redundancy, it makes my blood boil

Well the first flight out of Bristol is meant to take place in June. Then we are meant to be doing quite a few for them after that for the rest of 2012.

I doubt very much Menzies would be pulling out of MAN after gaining the BA contract..

As far as I know the BA contract was signed as a nationwide contract rather than station specific, so Menzies @ MAN inherited BA that way. Simply gaining a new contract doesn't mean they're running at a profit :ok:

Quite true 750,

I take it Menzies do not have much business at MAN?

Off the top of my head Menzies handle...

Easyjet, Jet2 (below wing), TAP, Iberia, BA, Icelandair, Aer Arran, AA (below wing), Aurigny, Germanwings and maybe a few others. However, it's well known that Menzies undercut the other handling agents at MAN (and possibly other stations) by a huge percentage so whether they are running at a profit or not is anyones guess

Bigbluebroxi
12th Jul 2012, 13:49
Given how little that contract is working to plan so far id imagine that they wont be making anywhere near the money they thought they would.

Impression I got from them was they thought they could implement the easyjet model onto the BA product, which was never going to happen.

And the amount they undercut servisair by was a huge amount. No idea how they can be making any money on it.

The96er

And the amount they undercut servisair by was a huge amount. No idea how they can be making any money on it.

No doubt they undercut Servisair, but by how much is unlikely to be in the public domain. Also, as I'm led to believe, there were other reasons as to why the contract did not remain at Servisair.

Doing the rounds today that Menzies have been given a 30 day improvement notice by flybe. Is it me or is that contract a poison chalice? Both Aviance and Swissport got dragged down by it and were both lucky to survive, now Menzies is suffering and they don't have any contracts to fall back on.

If flybe do pull the plug on Menzies one thing is for sure, their costs for ground handling will go up considerably as both incumbent agents know what it actually costs to do the job!

BA to take over AA ground handling at LHR in Jan.

Does that mean the AA staff move over to BA too and and does this also mean the AA staff at MAN will be affected in the same way ?

I have read on an Italian forum that Alitalia have sold the ground handling division in Heathrow. The CEO had said about two years ago that they would just keep self handling and third party handling in Rome's hub

Apparently AZ have sold their ground handling to GH which is an Italian ground handling company based in various Italian airports (although not in Rome and Milan):

GH Italia - The Ground Handling Network (http://www.ghitalia.it/)

Sorried to see another airline that has been operating in Heathrow since so many years exit the ground handling market.

Any truth in the rumour about Dnata which is a major handler at LHR going into BHX to handle parent company Emirates?

Any truth in the rumour about Dnata which is a major handler at LHR going into BHX to handle parent company Emirates?

Given that DNATA and Emirates are so close, I assume ASIG will be replaced as LHR handler quite soon? Underwing is currently DNATA is that correct?

"Virgin Atlantic has awarded Servisair contracts at 3 new regional bases, forming the airline's new domestic network. Servisair will provide full handling at ABZ, EDI and MAN, including check-in, ramp, and de-icing services."

"Servisair provide full handling to Virgin Atlantic at Glasgow and also internationally, where Servisair's American and Canadian divisions also provide handling services at BOS, LAX, MCO and YVR."

750XL
20th Dec 2012, 12:33
I believe they've been retained by Servisair.

I was under the impression that MAN was one of the best performing stations for TOM, I guess money talks...

MAN-OPS
20th Dec 2012, 13:36
Servisair have retained the contract for ground handling services at the following stations:

Aberdeen
East Midlands
Belfast
Edinburgh
Birmingham
Humberside
Bournemouth
Jersey
Bristol
Leeds Bradford
Cardiff
Liverpool
Doncaster
Luton
Durham
Tees Valley
Southampton

And lost at the following stations:
Manchester
Glasgow

Apparently GLA will be run under Smart handling by Servisair!

The96er
20th Dec 2012, 13:53
Seems strange to lose TOM at MAN but retain other stations ! - part of a 'SMART'er' plan by Servisair at MAN perhaps.

Bigbluebroxi
20th Dec 2012, 15:52

I was under the impression they couldnt handle anybody but Easyjet due to some contractual clause for the time being.

Menzies didnt get the GLA contract then kazzie? Servisair didnt get it which would only leave Smart!

Wonder how that will work.

They dont have enough dispatchers or ramp staff as it is and none of the servisair dispatchers or ramp guys will be eligible for tupe. In fact it will only be check in staff who are id imagine.

kazzie
20th Dec 2012, 17:53
I have no idea.. I am off at the moment so I am only going by what I have heard on here. But I was under the same impression as you that Smart was only allowed EZY? Just thinking if they have found a loop hole via handling solutions..

Bigbluebroxi

As far as I believe.

Thats two substantial contracts lost at GLA in the last 12 months with nothing to replace either of them.

Doesnt bode well.

Its a shame.. In the world of handling agents, its the money that talks. To the expense of the hard working staff on the front line..

I suppose thats the case for almost every industry out there these days. Not just aviation. Just have to make the most of what we have and enjoy it. In any case. I still love my job. And will crack on with it.

Good luck to everyone for 2013 x

GLA wise.. Is it Smart that have TOM? or Menzies? I am getting conflicting information.

750XL
21st Dec 2012, 23:27
TOM have been with Servisair for over 50 years (dating back to Britannia days) at MAN.

BA, TCX and TOM all gone for 2012, wonder what the future holds?

Virgin Domestic..

What airlines are left?

Bigbluebroxi
22nd Dec 2012, 09:42
Servisair still have TCX at GLA.

Unfortunately theres no VS Domestic service at GLA for the time being as that would have covered the shortfall from losing TOM.

Lufthansa id imagine will go to Menzies.

Things will probably be alright at GLA until the end of october. Who knows what will happen then, although it is a long time away.

Kazzie it was Menzies who got it at GLA.

22nd Dec 2012, 14:59
Thanks BB, Found out this morning when I got in...

LH, Well I would imagine menzies as well considering we handle diversions for LH, BUT it us being operated under Euro Wings.. So could be a contract up for tender.

Again, Good luck to everyone come next October.. Hopefully something will come along and save everyone at Servisair.

And I know Virgin Domestic are not coming to GLA (Unfortunately) I meant MAN in reply to 750XL :)

Dear All,

There has been jobs advertised from swissport UK @ LHR for:

- Customer Service Agent
- Flight Dispatcher
- Operational Shift Manager & Supervisor.

All the advertised positions say " ... Opportunities based at London Heathrow Airport managing passengers for a highly prestigious airline-Virgin Atlantic, which has just established new routes through London ... "

Will Virgin-Atlantic switch from self handle to handling agent ??

Anyone knows anything?

The96er

Jet2 have been doing their own pax services for some time now. They've recently started to employ their own 'Dispatchers' who are present on every turn, however, they are not yet approved for AAA, therefore, Menzies are still providing Dispatchers and Loadcontrol/Ops as required. The Ramp contract has been extended with Menzies to December I believe.

Servisair Cargo have the Emirates Cargo contract. Rumour has it that it is up for renewal soon. Dnata have purchased all of the ex Menzies Cargo stations around the UK. But Dnata have the Etihad Cargo contract which again is up for contract renewal time. Can Etihad and Emirates share the same Dnata Cargo shed? All very interesting goings on. Any updates?
