Folks,

appears to me that this section of pprune is blissfully unaware of the latest strike against GA, this time in Italy.

Please take your time and read the thread in the biz jet section. You may end up having your plane impounded and paying x-thousands of Euros next time you fly to Italy if you don't be careful here.

Gist of it: Italy imposes a luxury tax on airplanes, payable the moment ANY airplane spends more than 48 hours in Italy.

The cost: (better sit down, than take a calculator)

Up to 1,000 kg MTOW €1.50 per kg
Up to 2,000 kg MTOW €2.50 per kg
Up to 4,000 kg MTOW €4.25 per kg
Up to 6,000 kg MTOW €5.75 per kg
Up to 8,000 kg MTOW €6.65 per kg
Up to 10,000 kg MTOW €7.10 per kg
Over 10,000 kg MTOW €7.55 per kg

AOPA is at it but it needs a more concentrated effort. This does indeed make the Austrian pax tax look pale in comparison. Highway Robbery is the term that comes to mind!

So watch out! And avoid Italy whenever possible.

Not exactly "blissfully unaware". You just started thread #3 on this topic within Private Flying.

Here's the main thread. And yes, it's actually on the first page:

Shouldn't we grant a trophy for the tenth poster who is blissfully unaware how blissfully aware we are?

Then again, better mentioned thrice than not at all.

For the sake of tidyness, the BJ&GA thread is at http://www.pprune.org/biz-jets-ag-flying-ga-etc/473122-italians-new-tax-snafu.html

This thread is closed - not to stifle debate, just to keep it in a limited number of places.
