View Full Version : The swap an hour thread

Genghis the Engineer
27th Nov 2011, 10:47
I wish to propose a new running thread, which I think might find favour with the "interesting aeroplane" nuts amongst us.

Proposed ground rules - to swap an hour for an hour, no money changing hands (of course) in each other's favourite flying machines.

So, post here if you fancy joining in - very simple, answer three questions:

(1) Where are you?
(2) What can you offer an hour in?
(3) What would you like to get an hour's flying in? [A longer list for most of us I'd imagine]

I'll kick off...

(1) Booker and Cranfield
(2) A 1947 Stinson Voyager, and a Grumman AA5a Cheetah.
(3) Tiger Moth, Cirrus, DA40, Vans, Longeze, Europa Monowheel.

Anybody else care to play?

Great idea Genghis, I wish I could participate geographically!

But, for anyone in Ontario,

STOL Cessna 150, and Thurston Teal amphibian, and often something else I happen to have around at the time....

I'd be very happy to fly a Beagle or Robin (I was lucky enough to have a Tiger Moth to test fly last week!)

Incidentally, one trusts that in true PPrune fashion, all the hour-swappees will post about how it went here (or maybe the first person to have an excuse, could start another thread for the purpose?)

Well, for my half, it was fantastic! (though predates this thread by months).

Excellent host, great plane (the type I had never been in before), and the flight around the Isle of Wight, and my old stomping grounds of Selsey and Bosham, was wonderful.

Now I hope my host will accept my invitation to come splashing in some Ontario Lakes!

Greetings all, Im in Calgary Canada and own a 2005 DA40 IO 360, Im keen about exploring the the posibilities of exchanging flight hours with someone that may want to visit Western North America, in turn I would want to borrow an European based aircraft for flights within Europe over a 3 week period.
I have a PPl W/Night rating and an FAA as well as Canadian certificate, the flying would be from England or Germany to and including Portugal, Spain & Morocco.
My DA40 has the latest G1000 and synthetic Vision, prefer high time pilots or G1000 experience.

Is this a workable proposition???

Will have a chance to drool over a '38 (Glacier Girl) at Oshkosh this year - albeit on the ground! First time in the States, and am flying a Tiger Moth into the show which will be a buzz and a half. :)

Rjtjrt, have you flown the stampe yet? What is it like? I have heard, a massive heap of fun!

Failing that I could just buy you lunch and a pint and entertain you with my scintillating company...?
