Air NZ UE Requirement

Afternoon All...

Long time reader, first time poster.

I've heard from a couple of mates in GA recently the Air NZ Regionals now require University Entrance as part of the new 'Recruit to Group' concept. Is this correct?

A lot of guys I know around the traps don't have this (ironically because they knew they wanted to fly, so left secondary school to head to a flight school/aero club) and despite having a lot of experience and even some ATPL subjects, are being told they do not meet the criteria anymore...:ugh:

Anyone able to shed any light on this?

Yep it seems so. I got this off their www:
"Education
Candidates must have a qualification to enter university or equivalent."

What is the "equivalent"??

At about 25 dont you have the right to enter uni regardless? Maybe its all changed now, but I seem to remember something like that, from years ago.

Ergo, if you are over 25 (or whatever) then its all good?

Yep its true, there's some HR person who's commented to another colleague that people who went through the process earlier in the year who didn't have UE didn't fair as well as those who did have UE.

At 25 yes you can enter university but now with NCEA there is a difference in how you actually get UE. You now need credits in Maths, science and English at NCEA level 1 and 2.

Now if you don't have UE it is an absolute nightmare trying to get it.

If your on the NMIT course, the qualification you get at the end of your training is the 'equivalent'. So I suppose JB98 was correct in saying you probably only need to do one uni paper to qualify.

What about other aviation related quals like C&T experience, CP experience, etc? I know it's not UE/Bursary but does it count for anything?

More mindless HR morons justifying their own existence. What's the experience required to sit behind a desk and judge people? Zero. What's the experience needed to make judgement calls to operate in and out of some of the WX beaten **** holes we fly to? Oh yeah that's right, having UE will make all the difference there...:ok:

When I got into AirNZ, I got points for my Geology degree. It helped me into the airline and I use that knowledge everyday. Others around me have benefited from my knowledge. I am in an educated position to explain to them the danger of flying into mountains.

Not quite Don, you're more correctly able to tell them WHAT type of hard ground you're just about to fly into, how it was formed and how old it is.

Surely a ATPL is a equivalent degree for a pilot?.! I can see how you would think that but...Nope (even though if you take your ATPL to Massey they will give you a reasonable amount of credits towards a degree) knocking out 1 paper on art history or interpretive dance is worth more than an ATPL.

I would suggest doing an H.R paper, they might teach you the secret hand shake (AKA: the reach-around) that will get you a job.

A bit off topic here but what are the current hour/mins for guys getting into the links at the moment? I understand its recruit to group now so your data gets processed in Auckland?

Say if I have a degree, what would they be expecting in terms of hours?
