Hi guys,

I am a new joiner and I have enough for taxi driver falling a sleep on SZR, bit scary :\ from the back seat !

So, I am looking to get a car quicky with the EK loan (70000AED), either a ford explorer or a toyota fortuner, I want to get one from a dealer, to avoid problems...

Where can I find the best place to buy it, with a good discount!

Thanks

Al Futtaim automall and nowhere else. Honest service history, warranty and you can return the car within two months for a reasonable credit against a different vehicle if you don't like the one you've chosen.

At all cost avoid Philippean Motors in the Automart! Please. They claim to be friends of Emirates but will quite happily sell you a bag of spanners, with 'full service history, one lady driver, never driven in the desert' honest! Then keep your deposit when AAA garage identify it's faults. (AAA garage are awesome by the way)

Stick to main dealers or Dubizzle with a full vehicle check by someone like AAA garage (around 300 AED)

Good luck. If it's too good to be true.......

If you're really brave try Golden Bell auctions,

Did I read in previous posts that the EK loan was just another set of handcuffs.

Also is 70k enough for a NEW 4x4 in UAE.

The Mitshibishi Pajero seems to be popular as well, can pick up a brand new one from 110.000 to 130.000 depending on engine etc

Definitely agree with what Junglie-driver said, re: AAA, google AAA Dubai. I took 2 used cars there, all "lady driven, perfect condition etc. etc." and they turned out to be almost as bad as the rusty 737-400s I used to fly! The 3rd car got a clean report, I bought it and it runs like a dream. I used Dubizzle to find my car, also when you find a car you like on Dubizzle do another search with the owners contact phone number, sometimes you find some multiple/dodgy listings!

A Ford Explorer?? Jesus wept! :ugh:

Get yourself a Toyota Prado - it is everything you want for the region.

The problem with Prado's is you need to save up 70dhs every 3 years to change the wiper blades :\

Seriously you won't go wrong, just make sure you get it away from main agent servicing as soon as the warranty runs out, ohterwise yu become a target of easy opportunity. Change the fluids on these cars even remotely regularly and they will run forever.

I am a new joiner as well and i have had a few bad experiences with ads that state "lady driver, parked under the shade, and never off-roaded."

Be very careful!

Save yourself the headache and just buy from a dealer.

If anyone comes across a good quality Landrover Defender, can you point me in their direction. Spent many hours on Dubizzle, but no luck to date. Cheers JD

Hello,

I am moving to Dubai soon and was also looking at which car to buy.
I was looking for a good size car to fit the family that is not necessarily a four wheel drive.
My questions are...
Is driving a four wheel drive on sand dunes so much fun that everyone needs to own one?, or do you really need one just for just getting around?
I admit when I was there for interview I did not see a great deal of Dubai, but why does everyone seem to need a 4WD?

Thanks for the replies

E.

4WD = Safety and Protection from the maniacs . Desert not required !

Epiphone,

I was asked why I bought a 4wd when I joined, my honest answer was that " it was that I couldn't buy a tank for self protection!":E

Admittedly the roads have calmed down a bit since I joined, but the saying that the bigger the better still applies to motors in Dubai!

pm me if you want a 2011 Nissan Murano, only 10.000km. warranty, leather...etc etc

PS: avoid american cars. they dont get along very well with the heat. japanese brands very popular here 'cos they are very reliable.

Evening ryan, reference the Defender. Would love a 110, but would be happy with a 90. Not bothered about the colour. Anything between 1999-2006 would be great. Looking for a wagon we can keep and tinker with for the foreseeable future.

Have spoken with AAA garage and Al Tayer, but no luck. Local forums have also produced nothing. The hunt continues.

I saw a couple of Armoured Personnel Carriers on European Ebay the other day, only 4000 EUR. Suggested it to the wife (which actually got her support!!) Would love to cruise around blocking Landcruisers.

Well this is a 110 2001 Dubizzle.com | Defender: LANDROVER DEFENDER (http://dubai.dubizzle.com/classified/autos4x4s/land-rover/defender/2011/10/18/landrover-defender-2/?back=Y2xhc3NpZmllZC9hdXRvczR4NHMvbGFuZC1yb3Zlci9kZWZlbmRlci 8=&ps=2&is_search=1&price__gte=&year__gte=1997&year__lte=2009&keywords=&is_basic_search_widget=1&price__lte=)

The thing is that over here its the best to get Japanese cars as mentioned above. What is the range of cars (companies) you are thinking of ? and whats ur budget? i am not a dealer or anything but iam interested in cars lol
