NATS Infringements
8th Nov 2011, 21:58
SkyDemon in conjunction with EuroFPL have demonstrated to NATS a clever and innovative solution to assist the GA community to easilly compile and submit a VFR Flightplan for flight within the Olympic Restricted Airspace. The submission of a Flightplan with a route field in a prescribed format together with EETs for entry and exit to the airspace is one of the basic requirements for flight within the Restricted Airspace.

SkyDemon Light is a free-to-use pre-flight planning product for the UK GA community and contains key safety functionality as prescribed by NATS and the first recipient of the NATS Safety Complience Mark. SkyDemon Light offers basic flight planning facilities to pilots who wish to check NOTAM and have a PLOG generated for their route. Additionally, during the period of the Olympic airspace restrictions, SkyDemon Light will also sport a File Flightplan button which will instantly file a flightplan for your planned route, with no form-filling other than entry of your aircraft and will be free of charge. SkyDemon will autogenerate all the route fields in a manner that ensures the flightplan will be machine-readable, to maximise the chances of it being accepted by Atlas Control, the controlling authority for the Restricted Airspace.

File a FlightPlan Day
-------------------------

On Saturday November 12th the UK is having File-a-Flightplan Day. Between 10.00 and 15.00 pilots are encouraged to submit one or more flightplans representing flights they may wish to undertake during the Olympic period. During that period SkyDemon are opening up the functionality in SkyDemon Light to offer pilots the opportunity to compile and submit a flightplan via a simple graphical interface as an alternative to manual form filling via AFPEX. Simply plan a quick route (or even a complex one) that at some point penetrates the Olympic restricted area (which will appear on the main map on the day) and file the flightplan.

NATS in conjunction with the Atlas Control Team will be looking at the quality and formatting of all the plans received during the day and will be working with our customers including the SkyDemon Team to make the reception and processing of flightplans throughout the Olympic period as smooth and simple as possible.
