For the more senior members who have been awarded this medal, some sewing is needed before Sunday

British veterans awarded the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) Medal have been given permission by Her Majesty The Queen to wear it for the first time during remembrance events on Sunday.

:ok:

Thanks for the heads-up. I am about to get my late fathers medals remounted and he has the PJM. I collected earlier this year.

Having researched and written about the Malayan Emergency (at the point of being rather boring about it) this news will be welcomed by a enthusiastic, but dwindling number of returned Serviceman. It was a sticking point that Colonial Police officers and 'European Lieutenants' were not initizlly awarded this medal, given that they took 3 x the casualties of the Army.

I will look out for the medal this weekend.

It has taken six and a half years to reverse that disgraceful decision.

When I had a militaria shop I mounted a lot of these with British medals. The recipients took the view that as they were no longer serving, they weren't going to take any notice of what they regarded as a silly rule, and I must admit I agreed with them.

One thing, as I recall they had a 1 1/2" ribbon, which made them awkward to mount on a standard bar, although as more and more are going over to court mounting that problem would not apply with that style.
