I am flying to Funchal on 9/4/01 and am interested whether the airfield has improved since the r/w extension,has it got an ILS,is it payload restricted on a 321 from BHX,and what problems are encountered on the approach.If the crew rostered for the AMM flight on that day are out there would it be possible for a jump seat ride?
No ILS, due to the terrain. The runway is much longer these days, but the same old problems with x-winds and windshear still apply. Most days its a routine flight, but on a windy day, oh boy it sure can be fun. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/biggrin2.gif
As for a flight deck landing, i suggest you visit the F/deck and politely ask, they can only say no, but have a genuine interest!
