View Full Version : How soon will we "likely" see 787s flying around the Gulf?

Now that the 787 is finally being delivered to ANA after 3 years delay, how soon will we "likely" see 787s flying around the Gulf? I realise several airlines have the 900 version which has yet to be produced.

Any delivery and operation date estimates for QR, Gulf Air and Etihad? All have decent sized orders of 787s. Not sure if Air India will actually receive their allotment or whether they would fly to Dubai, etc. after delivery...

Cheers

Can anyone tell me why my auto-correct will not allow me to spell Etihad correctly in the post above? Very strange. I have corrected it several times and it won't show the corrected spelling...

It's doing it again in this post - it is misspelled again.

What device are you using?

QR has a 787 flight simulator up and running and is expecting the first 787 early 2012.

Who's using the sim?

I think it's mainly for them. They had some volunteers do some kind of test run type training on the 787 to get started.

Its smart of them getting it early, there'll be a few airlines come knocking to use it. AI being the most obvious, if they take delivery.

Not surprising about QR. Sounds like QR would receive some -800 models ahead of the -900 version being developed.

What about the others - Gulf Air and eeeeetiiiiihad? How soon can we expect their 787s? I presume QR could provide the pilot training for the neighbors.

GF? Not till after 2016, as that was their original delivery date back when the 787 was scheduled to be released in 2008. But it all depends on if they still exist by then and have the money to pay for them, as they haven't come up with it yet. They also constantly talk about how they're in discussions with the manufacturers A and B about reshuffling orders to narrow bodies as the deal was done before Majali came in and changed the Airlines priorities.

Etttiihad, Wikipedia says 2013/2014 sometime. I would think the later, if not after.

QR's 787 EIS is slipping again.
Current confirmed schedule is March 2012 but this will slip to at least August

Check out kpae.bl*gspot.com and you'll see how many 787's (and 747-8's)there are at Seattle at the moment. Can't be a lot of spare space left to play with.

GF will receive all 16 and maybe the 8 options acording to the Boeing schedule. It was to be in 2016 but after all the delays it will not happen up to 2019. GF also has the option to start receiving them earlier from 2014, which will be assessed in due time.
