An Indonesian army BH 412 went out to look for a supposedly missing Susi Air aircraft, and disappeared and lost contact with the ATC in the mountainous area in West Papua. Does anybody have some more information this tragedy?:uhoh:

Didn't Susi equip all their craft with Bluesky for tracking ?

In which case, they would have known where to look for right ??

last news floated in .. the missing chopper is in Wamena .. some lost communication ..

Yes actually I am familiar with this story.

I would file this under 'unhelpful crap the Indonesian Military does'.

They got airborne a few days late to help with rescue / recovery mission of the crew (the aircraft was located a few hours after the accident) from the downed aircraft. They passed their ETA at Wamena with no contact with tower or other aircraft in the area. Apparently the decided to land 'offbase' a few miles from Wamena without notifying either the military waiting for their arrival in Wamena, the tower, or the Military brass back at their base in Timika. In the morning they got airborne and flew straight back to Timika without helping at all.

This resulted in aircraft searching for the helicopter instead of in their role as a forward weather observer, in case the weather changed.

The crew was apparently stood down upon their return to Timika.

Just another of the frustrations faced by anyone who has been flying in Indonesia for any amount of time.
