Ha ha!

Empty out a bottle of Listerine, fill it with gin and a few drops of blue food colour. Works wonders for halitosis!

LoL - ALTSEL, Can you let me know when you find out? Seriously though I never touched a drop when I was in Jeddah on the basis that it was bad enough waking up there sober but to wake up there with a stinking hangover as well would have been too much to bear.

Beer in the "Kingdom"? You want to get your *#@<hidden> chopped off?

Anyway, I'm sure you can get some in the "compounds".
These "compounds" are residence for non Saudi citizens working there, heavily guarded by the military, & is considered "unholy" land. You can wear shorts & do whatever you like, beer too if they have their underground supply.

The reason for the military guards is probably NOT to let Saudi citizens in the compound. They cannot be exposed to such "unholy" behaviour...

I would agree for the compounds. You can get a lot of intersting drinks. Diplomats are also a good source of beverages.

Not sure if it is still the case but Saudi was reputed to be the biggest importer of Johnny Walker Whisky.

"Saudi airlines "village used to be a good place in the 80,s!Sorry I am going back a bit to when I worked there! Also fun to watch all the blonde bl;ue eyed "Air Hostesses "being picked up at the gate in limos!!In our compound we would brew beer and wine in the bathroom of whoever was on leave. The beer was good ,the wine usually a little sparkling due to its immaturity!!No problem buying great quantities of sugar and baby malt drink in the local supermarkets, wonder what they thought we would do with it all!!
I still have a recipe for red or white wine from"Rauch grape juice "if anyones interested!!!

Get friendly with your local defence and security company, get an invite to their compound for a barby and enjoy.

Of course one can get a cold beer anywhere in Riyadh, it just won't have any alcohol in it ;-) (Malt drink.)

Have to say, that as a business traveller staying in hotels, I am happy to stay off the pop for my short visits and keep my wits about me.

Yeah, heard the Rose Village Compound SA airlines had quite a long standing production of Sid "iaka"? When I was there I did not know anyone on the compound. During Hajj I had a friend with an airline who would import mouthwash via their F/A's, they allways used a compound, one time booked a complete hotel. Sitting on the roof, poolside, drinking a screwdriver as prayers were being blasted from loud speakers that challenged an AC/DC concert was truely a surreal experience.

Ah, Rose Village. They were the days with Air Atlanta. Plenty of home brewed beer watching the weeks roster come up on the "blue screen"!
We made a beer brew once using 3 kg sugar - made sidiki look and taste like soda pop. Jeez I miss those BBQs with the home made beer and Briggida's red wine with the camel steaks.
