Hi All,

Looking to head to Australia to train for my commercial license. I have my medical coming up on the 7th which should seal the deal for me to move out. I live in England right now but due to some petty ruling I cannot get an un-restricted Class 1 medical so pursuing my career here is not worth the time sadly. I am also an Australian citizen, so its the logical step to take.

Question is, which flight school provides both the best training and/or the best job prospects once leaving/qualifying?

Not fussed where it is in the country but my family is originally from Melbourn but now live in Brisbane, so either of those would be preferable.

What are your recommendations? Course quality and prospects weigh over costs too on this one.

Thanks,
Ian

Too bad you're leaving the UK, or else this might be of interest to you.

British Airways Future Pilot Programme | Oxford Aviation Academy - OAA.com (http://www.oaa.com/pages/schemes/british_airways.php#how_to_apply)

It's interesting that the age limit for this program is 55 years old ..

Austrialia? Why don't you go to America? It is much cheaper, isn't it?

I have also applied for the BA FPP, and the Cathay one too, but a lot rides on my medical. The JAA/CAA claim that I'm due to drop dead fairly soon but the rest of the worlds safety bodies + some of the best cardiologists in the world say im fine...work that one out. Laws are due to change in the next 12 months but it could be for the better or for the worse.

As for USA, its an option, but as I'm Australian by nationality I'd prefer to go there to do it.

If you're looking at Melbourne you can't go wrong with either Binis Advanced Flight Training or MFT. Both have great reputations and some very experienced (and friendly) instructors.

I agree while old threads are useful, times change. Not so sure about MFS now after the boss was recently spotted going berserk in a local cafe, to the horror of onlookers.

Hey ReverseFlight, If you want to make statements like that at least get your facts and location right! The incident took place in the car park not the cafe as you stated and it involved a former employee that i ran into (by chance) who did a runner owing the company in excess of $17,000 AUD :ok:

Hi Eeyon,

Have you considered New Zealand? As an ex-pat Pom here I highly recommend it for lifestyle. As an Australian citizen you can live/work/study here without restrictions and due to mutual trans-Tasman agreements if you get a CPL here it is also valid in AU. You may well find that with exchange rates the cost of training and living in NZ is also preferable.
And, you don't have to spend all day every day surrounded by Australians! ;-)

did a runner owing the company in excess of $17,000 AUDI see ... then you'd better tell the cops and take him to court and sue him, A.J.
