Been exchanging e-mails with a fellow retired FAA person (Vixen/Phantom background as opposed to my Buccaneer/Sea Harrier) and he relates to me an incident at Karup in the early 70's. He was on a (Vixen I think) detachment at Karup when an RAF Buccaneer ( Honington he thinks) landed one morning . The RN ground crew turned it round and on departing, after a lengthy lunch, the Buccaneer aborted (tyre burst) and took the RHAG (I think) but during the abort the observer (sorry navigator) ejected because he thought the pilot said EJECT not ABORT (subsequently related by the pilot to my friend) .
Never heard this tale although I'd been on and involved with Buccaneer from 65-78 at Lossie and Honington
Anyone recall this incident ???
