Coo :ooh: page one, what a lot of space !!!

I'm sure we all understand and appreciate the Mod's decision and thank them for allowing Silhouette Challenge to grow to the size it did, but equally, I think that it was a very popular attraction for the Forum judging by the number of views it achieved!

That said, it would be nice if the old thread could be "Stickyfied" for a while, so that lurkerrs can still browse it, also, so that it can be referred to when checking against Mel's list to verify information. This is not so easy with the old "What Cockpit" threads (I-III) now they're deep in the Archives, seems like only recently that they disappeared from the tabbed listings!

Here's to the next million!!!

Well done for kicking it off Reg :ok:; now give us one of your famous predictions for the arrival of Page 100 :E!!

It's an Omani Air Force Jaguar photographed at Muscat, Oman.

All were flown by RAF or ex-RAF pilots. There were no low flying rules, so hooliganism was always the order of the day.

I did a permalink of the last page of the original SC and saved it as a bookmark, and edited my opening post to add the permalink there.

I also followed up the WC and could follow it to MK III, but not I and II. I wonder if permalinks stay "forever" after archiving. Maybe mods know… Should I ask in Computers, Internet and Troubleshooting thread?

I know, particularly when the whether is always hot, hot, hot!!!! There were lots of others inside - Hunter, Spitfire, Hurricane, Ouragan, Mystere IVA, MIG-21, SU-7, Fury, Lysander, etc.... Its the italian flying bomb.. I'll ge the name to you...

Ambrosini Assalto Radioguidato

General Avia and Stelio Frati aircraft history, performance and specifications

Stelio Frati was born in Milan, Italy, in 1919. He was mad about aviation even as a kid and was an aero modeller of talent, being Italian national champion in powered free-flight models in 1940. One of his model sailplanes of that time unofficially beat the world endurance record, flying for two and a half hours-and that was before radio control, remember.

http://www.pilotfriend.com/aircraft%20performance/frati/images/1.gif

The Assalto Radioguidato
Frati studied at the Milan Polytechnic from 1938 to 1943 and graduated as a mechanical engineer-the school didn't have an aeronautical section till later. In the Milan Polytechnic was the "Centro Studi ed Esperienze per il Volo a Vela" (CVV), where Frati helped design various sailplanes. During 1941-43, he contributed to the design of the AL 12, a military sailplane, and the Assalto Radioguidato, a kind of flying bomb powered by a big radial engine. A pilot was supposed to get this monster airborne, then jettison its landing gear and later bail out, leaving the crew of another plane to direct the "bomb" to its target by radio control. It was an unsophisticated device, the brainchild of the chief of staff of the Italian Air Force, and intended to be used against Allied shipping in the Mediterranean. Five were built and two flown, but they were never used in action.

A somewhat patronising attitude mate! :{:{:eek::\:\;)

I just feel that if we are going to do real silhouettes, then they ought to be accurate.

I have seen phrases such as "sorry, I forgot to do this" and "I missed this bit" and " not sure from the image where this goes".

If images are not accurate, then people start typing misleading phrases into the web.

It's probably about time for my retirement.

Nacht / night.

skytrain10
4th Aug 2011, 20:04
Guys, one of things I said in my "guidelines" is that this should be for fun. The day we take it seriously is the day we should stop. We all make errors converting pictiures to silhouettes - it's called human error. We are ALL guilty of that. So let's show some tolerance.

Back to the challenge...familiar but can't place it...I'm guessing American? Somewhat Kitfox'ish....but the undercarriage is wrong.

skytrain10
4th Aug 2011, 22:04
Bugger, wish you hadn't said that...it's got me looking again!

Personal connection....well I guess that's Oshkosh, which got me looking at Wittman designs, amongst others, but nothing there...:ugh:.

Unfortunately with a connection speed under 100 kbps it is frustratingly slow...so a proper search of Aerofiles is out of the question.....:(

SincoTC
4th Aug 2011, 22:18
The personel connection is correct (sorry to hear that your internet one isn't) :) !!

This aircraft is in the EAA AirVenture Museum, so you've probably seen it, and the reason you've been there is because the local airport manager was responsible for the EAA coming to Oshkosh and the airport now bears his name, as did your last post. Take another look at his works!! I wouldn't bother with Aerofiles though as there's no piccie, which is why I thought it may be worth using. Wiki would be better this time (but still no picture :) There was a replica built early this century (coo that sound odd doesn't it)!!

Morning HP. :)

Do I see what appears to be an oversize fuel jettison pipe at the rear?

Morning LM!
I honestly have no idea.
It originates from the base of the vertical stab, just in the middle, and the "leading edge", so to speak is painted black.
It's on other photos too, and on both sides (if some smart:mad: photograph didn't flip 'em, that is).
