A Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 461 approaches an Air Force C-130P aircraft from the 81st Rescue Squadron during a helicopter air refueling mission. 13,800 pounds of fuel was delivered to the helicopter during the 45-minute mission. Both aircraft are assigned to the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa area of responsibility. (U.S. Navy photo by Jesse B. Awalt)

Good picture to brighten my morning switch on, Thankyou John.

Just one thing,...are the blades of the big bird purposely curved or is it an optical ablution.??

My regards

Love the picture but I have a few questions.

Is it normal operating procedures to have the gear down during aerial refueling and, maybe I'm reading it incorrectly, why did it take 45 mins to transfer 13,000lbs of fuel? I don't know of anyone who would want to be continuously doing aerial refuel for 45 straight mins. Like I said, it's the way that I interpolated what the reporter was saying. Anyone else read it that way?

Perhaps it was a training sortie, with multiple prods. The emphasis being on the skills/techniques rather than as an actual mission requiring AAR. As they appear to be overland, this would further back this up....
