In the 15 years I've been reading and participating in this forum, I've come to realise there's more than a few smart blokes and blokettes on here who could do a hell of a better job that the current lot in power, not to mention the opposition.

So........I'm going to propose my dream team to install in power in a sort of benevolent dictatorship as Paul Hogan put it.

Chumbu Chuckles
Keg
Mr Hat
East West Loco
Wizard fo Auz for spiritual guidance from up there (rest his soul)

I will add more as I think of them

Who else could we nominate(kidnap)?

Maybe Jaba, but he's probably too busy with the politics of the SAAA to give the people the time they deserve :)

Me benevolent?

You would not believe the world of hurt I would bring down on certain sectors of our society:mad:

As a result of also being what might be termed somewhat of a 'straight shooter' you'd find my chances of being elected about on a par with those of Juliar and her rabble being re elected.:ugh:

Been a few dacades since I was last seen in budgy smugglers but:ok:

Very flattering but as I told a boss a year or so ago when I resigned a position, I don't 'do' politics. I call it how I see it, I argue out a solution and we get stuck in on delivering an outcome. I don't have time to 'cultivate' relationships being nice to incompetents, sycophants, and those for whom the political 'process' is the aim rather than delivering an outcome, just so that they can have my back and support my proposals. People either see what I'm suggesting is a good idea or they shoot holes in it so we can come up with something better.

So in that respect, don't expect to see me in politics any time soon but I appreciate the fact that some feel that what I say occasionally makes sense.... unlike this post which probably doesn't! :ok: :}

Actually, now that I re-read the original proposition, if you're talking benevolent dictatorships then I'm in. No need to bother with politics in that process.

Another point, I'm actually a fan of 'open' politics and have been very lucky to work with a boss previously who was excellent at it. IE if it was time to submit budgets it was a very open and honest process as to how much I wanted and how much everyone else wanted. There was no back door deals or cultivating favour. Disagreements were held out in the open and resolved (I thought anyway.... time proved me wrong). Sometimes I got what I wanted, sometimes I didn't. At all times though I knew why I didn't get what I wanted and I'd back the boss home. Sadly I've also worked for bosses who revelled in those 'quiet chats' that people would engage in and everything was kept quiet and you were never sure of your footing or what others were up to or how they were stabbing you in the back so they could get what they wanted. It's the latter politics that I despise and it's poisonous and I won't work in a regime where it exists.

Sure I'd do it but I don't do populist stuff. So it would be a waste of time.

The only policies in this country are those developed in order to be reelected.

Basically the same as Keg says.

Ok I'm going.........

mate, you make a lot of sense, and can stay on topic, probably too hard for people like Gillard Swan or Abbott to see where you are coming from. These focus group people of Canberra could never be pilots, they are continually stuck in a holding pattern until the tanks go dry, only then they realise something is wrong with the finals.

For gender balance (and because she talks a lot of common sense), I'd like to nominate Worrals.

I'd also suggest anyone who wants to be involved because they want to "do politics" be automatically disqualified.

It's the political elite "doing politics" that has us in this situation.

I will put my hand up for the position of 'politician who gets busted with booze/ drugs/ hookers'. I am particularly interested in the salary package for this position, as well as any of additional perks associated with such a prestigious positions (Chairman's Lounge?). I promise to be vague, insulting, and as hard to pin to anything as water to a hotplate.

Although we all think that becoming a politician would be on the nose, what we could do is market PPRUNE(DG&P) as a Specialist Contractor.

When the pollies want a new airspace system in, contract us to " work out the details" and implement it.

Having followed a few threads in my short time on this board, I could only imagine a PPRUNE political arm would end up something like this.

Then again, most of the arguments on here would go away if the regulations were written by pilots.
