Media reports both guys are in hospital, injuries unknown.

The lower guy in the pic has, I think, deployed his reserve (white 'chute) & stayed with his mate; it seems that the reserve has simply joined the mess up above. I suspect that if he had 'cut away' & used it, he would have de-stabilised this whole bag of laundry with dire results for his pal, who was clearly not well placed to follow suit. Height was probably an issue by then, anyway.

What is that old saying about jumping out of a serviceable aircraft?

HB

PS: I have now seen another pic (google: parachute zeltweg) which shows that the white 'chute is the reserve of the upper guy, which has deployed & tangled in the rigging lines of the lower guy's primary 'chute.
Hopefully, the lower guy then deployed his reserve, which no doubt suffered a similar fate; however, any reduction in descent rate is a gift.

Such a luxury to be able to 'cut away' when you can..........

tmobile - that is probably why you are a 'probationary pruner'.

Do my eyes deceive me or is the unfortunate lower guy just holding onto his chute ropes? Hopefully the apparent tree cover would have helped a little.

tmobile - "Looks okay to me. "

Are you serious???!!
That looks waaay too low to cut off and go with the reserve 'chute.
That fella is about to have a very bad day and the other guys forcast doesnt look to rosy either.
I just hope to god they are going to be able to laugh about it one day, as in survive the injuries !

I really hope you aren't a drop instructor..........

Edit:
Just seen JD's pic and lower guy deffo has got his reserve out, but caught up. Not good, not good at all. Gotta be one hell of a scary few seconds...

" Just seen JD's pic and lower guy deffo has got his reserve out"

Im sorry but your wrong there. The lower guys reserve is still its front mounted container. You can see the upper guys reserve lines hanging loose in the tangle attached to the reserve.

All the angst and criticism... my, my.

When I read tmobile's post, its "tongue-in-cheek" nature was very apparent... perhaps you lot need to get your sense of humor checked... it seems to have malfunctioned.

So if a similar comment came after the SU-27 disater in the Ukraine - something along the lines of "looks ok to me", that would be tongue in cheek, or just bad taste? Where is the line?
Forgive me but i feel that whenever lives are in danger or lives have been lost, dark humour should be identified in the post. Maybe like "looks ok to me.........i jest mates - i hope they are ok".
That would reinforce the fact that it is a 'humorous' comment and should be taken as such.
