Hi there,

I'm looking for some advice with regards to getting my class 1 medical.

To briefly explain my situation, i'm 29, and 2 years ago was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblasic Leukemia. I finished treatment in May this year, and have since applied to the CAA for my class 1 medical with a hope to start flight training at OAA.

I've just received their reply (prior to any medical) which states that i'll have to wait 3 years before they'll certify me. This is slightly confusing given that their protocol (http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/49/Anthrac...1_May%2010.pdf (http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/49/Anthracycline-CL1_May%2010.pdf)) states that you only have to wait 1 year following your final dose of anthracyclines.

Since my all clear i've had a full cardiology review and numerous blood tests by CAA approved medics, all of which show i'm absolutely fine, and even more bizarrely my prognosis barely differs between now and 3 years. I'm at a total loss to see what the CAA have based this time scale on, if anything other than being overly cautious.

Does anyone have any advice on how to pursue this matter further and hopefully get the CAA reconsider their time scale.

Many Thanks. Andrew
