Good for those who serve and have served to be supported, and for those who have given their lives to be remembered

We will remember them: For our tomorrow they gave their today.

I hope those that are having to work this weekend at least get a day off in lieu. Strange logic to make it a Saturday. How about a grateful Government move it to a weekday so at least the chaps and chapesses get a day to relax and celebrate.

That said, a raised glass to those still serving.

Have there been any events anywhere?

About 200 apparently. Royal family heavily involved as usual. Even the PM pitched up for one.

For those with Sky anytime they have a special programme recording the history of the armed forces in NI as part of the day

Diggerland did us proud. Many a 'Lincolnshire Air Force' mate was spotted in the Castleford branch today.

Bloody sunburnt* now though.

*spellcheck refutes this word's existence. I refute spellcheck's veracity.

Apparently Armed Forces Day is about the Public showing their appreciation for HM Forces by attending events where HM Forces give up their free time to march etc for their benefit - its not about us having a day off, even if the day is a Saturday in June. To add insult to injury, there is another Saturday in June when an awful lot of HM Forces work (Trooping the Colour).

Today, Sunday, in Aberdeen they had a full parade of massed (5) pipe bands plus reps from all three services past and present marching down Union Street in celebration of this occasion. It took about fifteen minutes to past by and the crowd watching it were vocal in there appreciation and applause.

Then nobody could come to the events as they would all be at work/

Then make Armed Forces Day a PUBLIC HOLIDAY.

In light of the political schism travelling down Trafalgar Square to Parliament Square, political participation in Armed Forces Day looks a bit, how shall we say, shallow?

Then make Armed Forces Day a PUBLIC HOLIDAY.

Then all the punters would be at B&Q.

The main event was in Edinburgh this year, although there were other events, both formal and informal, throughout the land, such as those in Cardiff and Windsor.

In addition to parades, there were flypasts, role demos, and access to ships and army vehicles. All very much appreciated by the public, especially as many of the servicemen and women gave up their free time to host the events. :ok:

Next year Plymouth will be the focal point for the day.

Even the PM pitched up for one.

I hear a lucky one in every thousand of those selected will be personally sacked by 'David call me Dave' himself. Was that why he was there?
