Just as an aside to this, it was revealed on 3AW Morning program, 14/06/11, there are no CCTV cameras at major airport terminals. It cited the bikey killing in the Sydney terminal a few years ago with still nothing being done to this day re security. What about face recognition technology upon us. How many cards did this imposter produce?

Maybe it is the responsibility of the airline?

Entering airside via the crew entrance you get 1 security officer with one of those metal detector wands. All you need to do is declare your big knife and tell them its for a BBQ and they let you through without further questions.

Yesterday Mr Urrozsotomayor faced court, charged with 62 offences including 51 counts of forgery and several offences under anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws.
The cards and the group that oversees them, the Office of Transport Security, have been criticised for lax security measures, including poor background checks and poor record keeping.

Now I am the last to defend the department but how can you criticise the department for some moron who decides he will make fake cards. If I started doing it tomorrow how could they stop me.

Have to agree that it was only a matter of time. So what is the alternative? Do we have full time security at every access point airside at ALL security controlled airports checking to make sure the damn things are valid? Given that the only way to allow a person unescorted access airside at a security controlled airport is that they must display a valid ASIC, what are the alternatives? I for one certainly favour the measured risk based approach rather than us trying to do our jobs enduring a security nightmare.

All the majors have several CCTV systems administered variously by the airport, tenant airlines and the government. How effective it is depends on the area within that airport. It's very difficult to get blanket coverage with any CCTV system, there are usually a few holes due to obstructions.

Also, as I said at the time of the Sydney incident, Worrals' Law of CCTV is that in the event of an incident the camera will always be broken or pointing the other way. Nor has anyone invented a camera that can leap off the ceiling and arrest someone.

Passports and drivers licences get faked but that doesn't make the whole system untenable.

The government aren't serious about airport security. If they were everybody would be screened. It's all or nothing.
