As you may know, Airservices has adopted a long-term (5 year) hybrid approach to service pricing, which includes location specific pricing with regional caps, and network recovery of non-location specific costs, and gives GA and the regionals at least half a chance. Among other things, Airservices has decided not to levy invoices on GA until $500 is reached in one year, due the lack of economy in doing so.

The submission by the Qantas Group includes the following:

"On the information available it is not possible to assess whether airlines are subsidising low frequency GA. If this is the case, such cross subsidies are not desirable or reasonable. The populous that own and operate GA aircraft are generally wealthy individuals and it is inappropriate that the general flying public subsidise this segment of the aviation community. Whilst it is clear that a significant number of customers generate an inordinate number of invoices it needs to be shown that the costs to provide services to GA are being recovered by that segment of the industry by charges more reflective of the costs to provide services to them."

It stands in stark contrast to the corresponding response by Virgin Australia (VAA) to the same question:

VAA is generally happy with the appropriateness of the proposed charges for general aviation as long as the charge does not cost more to collect than the charge itself."

You pack of miserable bastards. Maybe GA should form a company to force Qantas to pay for every pilot they recruit from GA seeing as GA is subsidising their airline operation.

I hate the thought of harming all of the good peoples employment at Qantas, but fark me Qantas, you are not making it hard for me to make a choice as to who I purchase my next ticket with.

You are nothing but a pack of un-charitable, miserable you know whats.

:ugh:

Being retired we travel whenever we can and usually go Business Class. We are willing to pay a modest premium to travel Qantas however on the last three OS trips, QF has come in thousands of dollars more, so they have not benefited from our business.

Sorry about the thread drift, IMHO QF MUST do something about their costs (and fares) if they are to survive. The current union efforts wont help.

Beat me to it........I was about to launch a similar dummy spit myself.

In various arena's in the big end of town I have noted VA have a much more realistic view and approach to many issues than does QF.

Sad really. Just glad there is a suitable alternative emerging at last.

I really feel for all the long serving loyal employees.

I love it - the usual socialist doctrine from the 'government' employed!

This is the same dribble that's espoused by airport owners all over Australia.... the they can afford it working class v capitalist dogma.

This wonderful English 'class' philosophy, imherited from our Pom forbears, is at the root of every user pays discussion we ever hold.

It's the basis of CASA and ASA attitudes toward any aviation group other that the RAAF and RPT.

happy days,

I'd like to say that the board of QF are "generally wealthy individuals", but with the share price hovering around $2.00....... :suspect:

Please excuse me as I use my personal Rolls Royce to tow out of the hanger the 172 that I'm private hiring at the rate which has increased 100% in the last 10 years, clearly this is a consequence of my salary going up by the same amount

Would have to agree... small aircraft owners and operators are some of the poorest people in the country, mostly because they do own and operate small aircraft! Those folk at QF really are on a different planet... get them just to compare what they drive or how they live with average GA folk... and as has been said, GA has been subsidising the QF training big time for many, many years! They never paid a penny for much of the abinitio training of many of their pilots - but are quite happy to poach well trained, experienced GA drivers in whom struggling GA operators and the pilots them selves have invested everything they have.

QF hold your heads in shame... you've really lost it when your managment make comments like that and no wonder you're heading for s--t street. Bentleg and me aren't the only one who just don't bother with you now!

Too right Cleared - you and Bentleg aren't the only ones in no hurry to travel with them any more. Useful information here (http://www.aopa.com.au/information-centre/aopa-news/2011/06/09/qantas-misguided-about-general-aviation/)

It is sad indeed..........just like so many other threads on this site, they all have a subtle message. :=

Jaba house is on a change campaign, and its not the only one.........

They also seem to forget that much of Airservices charges are a result of the commercial need for controlled airspace. I'll bet that GA could do without ASA a whole lot sooner than the QF's of this world.

The worst part is I've got a few friends & associates that work at Qantas (pilots & planning). They are top blokes and do not share the 'ethics & values' of whomever is making these comments/decisions.

I just hope the good people at Qantas can see this management reign out.
