Another contribution from Flying Bull, taken during a session of water rescue training at the town of Hitdorf, on the River Rhine. Not much more detail, but thanks again for the photo :ok:

Thanks John for taking the trouble to produce the calender each month. Now I have retired and along way away from helicopter activity in West Wales, it is a nice reminder of a long career in rotary aviation

Best wishes

Hi,
once or twice a year the pilots of the police squadron train waterrescue.
With BK117īs the helicopter decends with the skids just onto the water, the rescuer grabbing the person and fixates him on the skid by putting an arm around a strut i.e..
Then the helicopter "watertaxies" to the side to shallow water, where the person can be rescued.
With the squadron EC155 the hoist is used. On the picture you see the double sling, avoiding that the rescued person is getting upright during rescue and therefore the "rescuedeath" due to cold blod from the limbs cerculating into the still warm body.
Waterrescue is not a primary task for the squadron - but the helicopters are often in the air when people end up in the water - and it would be a shame, if you couldnīt help cause you havenīt trained it and donīt now how to do it and where the risks are.
Greetings Flying Bull
