Checking my newest charts, Melbourne Radar (and Sydney) are no longer printed as Radar but centre, yet I can't find any publication of this, is it a miss print or a change in name? If so, why?

An added thought.....
Do the Capital cities still have 'Primary' RADAR, (bounce off target) or is it all transponder activated 'SSR' now?
Just curious is all.... I've been 'away from it' for a while now.....

All the places with radar approach service still have primary radar.

TAR still surrounds those big airports. ICAO moving to 'surveillance' as a catch all for ADSB, WAM, Mode S etc. So radar is no longer a term that we use.
Boys got excited when they read Perth Centre - took them back 15 years!!

The AIC mentioned phased array radars. Do we have any (SY SMR maybe)?
So it's purely a name change, then? Simply refer to Sydney Radar as Sydney Centre from now on etc.?

No phased array radars at Sydney. The SMR is primary (on top of the tower) and Multilat.

I swear I would have read them all before the 2nd of June :}
No problems the electrons are still active, name change only, the dish still goes round and round.
I reckon if I can get 20c for everyone out of JT, Serpentine, Murray Field who calls up Perth Radar instead of Perth Centre in the next week, I will be able to pay for a nice little holiday.

Block - the rating will change to APP(S) for surveillance. Eventually..
Unit callsigns will still align with the service provided - except most likely the "centre" in this case should have been "information" as per Doc 4444.
