Abu Dhabi, May 21st, 2011 (WAM) -- The Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Abu Dhabi announced on Saturday that the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina has licensed a direct air line between Dubai and Tuzla, a city some 150 kilometers north of the capital Sarajevo.

The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Arab Emirates, Radomir Kosic said that the opening of direct flight route will contribute to the revitalization of tourism and trade between the two countries.

On the basis of Open Skies policy, the United Arab Emirates, represented by the General Authority for Civil Aviation in Dubai recently signed the Agreement for the air transportation, with the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to facilitate closer cooperation in the field of air transport between the two countries.

The Ambassador noted that the first promotional trip to the new destination, heading to Tuzla from Dubai will depart on the first of July 2011.

He paid tribute to the MEPS Group, franchise owner of this line, to the program and dates of regular flights between the two cities as of early July.

Kosic added: "This direct line represents a leap to facilitate the movement of nationals of the UAE and Bosnian and Herzegovina, and is expected to contribute to improving the economic relations significantly over the coming period".

He explained that there is considerable interest from the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to travel to the United Arab Emirates as a trade and economic hub in the region and wider.

He said:" This line will also facilitate the transit of more than 10 thousand citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina living in Afghanistan and Iraq and 50 thousand plus living in Australia".

The Ambassador also noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina today tends to be a economic and culturally bridge between Europe and the Middle East, receiving considerable attention of investors and businessmen in the UAE and the region in general due to its geographical position as well as cultural and civilizational commonities with these countries.

Good news, but it's hardly a likely EK route, surely?

Can Tuzla handle a 777 - not just the runway, but the terminal? And is there sufficient traffic to justify a 777, at the frequency EK would like to operate?

Surely a Flydubai 738 would be a better option to start?

They specified Dubai, Air Arabia operate out of Shaja, so it seems more likely to be Fly Dubai.
