Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about the scene in Tennant Creek NT. I'm wondering if it a good place to base yourself if going up north looking for a job? Also, does anyone know who the operators are in that area?

I've also heard it's pretty rough there:

Teens roam Territory streets looking for sex, alcohol and trouble as quick-fix policies fail (http://www.theage.com.au/national/teens-roam-territory-streets-looking-for-sex-alcohol-and-trouble-as-quickfix-policies-fail-20110327-1cbxa.html)

'Tent city' at Tennant Creek | News | NT News | Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia | ntnews.com.au (http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2011/03/31/221321_ntnews.html)

Is that something to be alarmed about or can I expect this anywhere I look for work in NT?

Hey mate. I know of Chart Air (Darwin) holds a base in the Creek, but not really sure of any more than that.

I was there in 2008 and the only company operating out of TNK then was Chartair and that was for a specific contract involving a multi-engine aircraft. There was talk of basing another aircraft (most likely a single) there but whether that went ahead or not I don't know.

The town was ok to live in and there wasn't much trouble between the races but there was an increasing problem with Aboriginals coming into the town to get alcohol after the Commonwealth intervention. The town's prosperity is closely linked to the numerous small mines around the area. With the price of gold increasing daily I understand that there is a lot of interest in opening up those mines again. If they do start operating again there will be more aviation to and from TNK.

If you wanted to go north but not to Darwin, Katherine or Alice Springs would be a better bet.

ChartAir have a 210 based a TNK now, but too be honest I wouldn't bother about hanging around there, I believe darwin do the hiring for that base anyways.

All you'll get in Tennant from Chartair is the Aeromed pilot who will tell u to either head to Darwin (where the Chief Pilot is) or Alice (their largest base).

Good luck

Absolutely.

Chartair is the only operator in TNK.
But it is a one aircraft base with a C402 for the TNK base hospital.
Wouldnt surprise me if they have a 210 sitting there now too.

But as mentioned previously, ASP is the main base where Shaftair operates. Definately go via there as they do all the hiring for the ASP base. The aeromed guy in TNK is an ASP pilot doing (usually 6-9 months) basing in TNK.

Another mob from Darwhine did move a light SE down there for a bit but it didnt work out.

As someone mentioned previously, gold prices have increased to the point where it is now worth extracting it from the fairly damp earth around TNK, so a bit of life will most likely come back into the town. However, in terms of aviation this will most likely be fly in/out work from Darwhine or ASP.

But in all, TNK is a ****hole.

Hope this helps.

Eternity.

No, it is not a good place to base yourself. Operators in the area would be Alice Springs and Katherine based operators (if you are heading up the middle).

Good luck :ok:
