Currently working through my CPL I am looking into the possibility of getting out of my current job (elevator & escalator installation/maintenance) and doing something a bit more relevant to the industry. My question is that is there a possibility of getting work as a LAME workshop assistant/slave or something along those lines. I'm quite happy doing anything from sweeping floors to washing planes, just would like do get some hands on experience maintaining aircraft from people who know what there doing.
Just wanted to ask the question before going around sticking my head into workshops, if they are never going to employ someone who is not a qualified LAME or apprentice.
Any recommendations of businesses to try around YBCG,YBAF or YRED would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Just rock up at a hangar and start cleaning!!

Seriously though, at YRED Gerry dick always likes having people around, absolutely top bloke and usually puts on a BBQ too.

Advice stay in (elevator & escalator installation/maintenance) no $$ in aviation anymore.

I don't know what trade you've got, but if you're qualified with elevators/escalators you may want to look at the companies that look after baggage control systems. Berril Control Systems are big in this regard, there are probably others as well.
BCS Group - to look beyond the obvious (http://www.bcsgroup.biz/)
I imagiune that it pays better than hangar sweeping, and you'd be on-airport although it's not aircraft specific.

I got no qualifications, just fresh out of high school studying at uni n doing my PPL part time at Whitworth's, so a job at YSBK on the days Im there would be great, Itll help me get to understand the aviation industry more and i like being around planes so I wouldn't mind sweeping floors, washin planes...etc. So anyone know of any places to look at? Thanks

Kippers7, sorry for hijacking your thread but i don't want to open up another one.
