Can anyone confirm this rumour..
Comes from some people who heard it from management during the induction course..

"EK growth plans will soar after the new Airport is opened up by 2016, in which the airlines capacity is planned to reach a staggering 150 A380, 150 B777, and 150 A350"...

Thats basically three times its current fleet!! and 150 A350?? come on..how many can be built per month after who knows when it rolls out :ugh:

I think the manager is being a tad over-zealous. For a start, I don't think EK will even have started receiving A350s by 2016. I think their current order is around 70 (although it's quite likely that more will have been ordered by then).

So far, "only" 90 A380s have been ordered.

Currently, 89 777s have been delivered, with 41 still on order, but the 89 includes early model 777-200s, which are slated for retirement.

It's only just the beginning of other countries and competitor airlines campaigning to limit the number of EK aircraft entering their territories....so if this trend continues, what are EK going to do with all this extra, shiny metal???

Yes, surely many new planes will arrive, many will be phased out - but it seems the final balance will consist of much greater aircraft numbers....is air travel going to increase THAT much in the next few years? I'm not so sure...but it seems Emirates are pretty certain...I hope they don't bite off more than they can chew :hmm:

Yes that's a tad "Blue sky" for a number of reasons.

I don't know that late A350s is one of them as would be a (relatively) simple matter to simply defer retirements and order more 777s.

What WILL limit growth is, as BCG states, pressure from foreign carriers to limit access to bi-lateral agreements.

Also, expecting operations to be in full-swing at DWC by 2016 is extremely wishful thinking. We are limited to about 220-250 aircraft while operating out of DXB, even IF other carriers get punted to DWC.

PLUS other regional players (QR, EY) are starting to be actual threats to growth, not just window-dressing for their prospective governments.

I think a more incremental growth to 300-350 aircraft over the next 10-15 years.

After that? Don't care, I'll be on my sail-boat somewhere.

250 by 2020, 150 now 200 on order and 100 retirements, the retirements include an overall reduction in 777 ( early 300er's /200/300's) all 332/343/345 by 2020, maybe the plan to move to JBX 2020,.

Does anyone realy care????

The way EK works it's pilots most will be retired or dead by then!!!!!

Having said that TC might be pushing up the daisies by then and things might improve, like crew rest. :ugh:
