Can anyone tell me when the requirement for rego markings on the wings was removed? I build quite a few models of Australian registered aircraft and often have to guess whether they carried wing regos or not.

Some aircraft were exempted from Feb 2008. This link (http://www.casa.gov.au/scripts/nc.dll?WCMS:STANDARD::pc=PC_90236) may help.

when did the requirement to display rego on the wing top surface get rescinded?

From the link in Post #2 (exemption for VH-CTV)

The nationality and registration marks of the aircraft must be painted on both sides of the aircraft's stabiliser ...

So the rego could be painted top and bottom of the tailplane?

So you're suggesting that the rego isn't required under the wing?

you dont have to have them on the top of the wing (I dont know when this was enacted) and since 2008 you dont have to have them on the bottom either,

so now I just would like to know when the requirement for topside rego was deleted..
are these model markings right or wrong?

No rego mark under the wing. We figured at the time it wasn't required, so we didn't bother with it.
