I recently saw an RAF VC-10 at JKIA, apparently ferrying British troops for the regular training excercises in Liakipia, near Mt Kenya. Fond memories of that aircraft include being summoned as a boy to the flight deck by the BOAC captain on a flight to Bombay (as I recollect), to sign my Junior Jet Club logbook. Any other stories of VC-10's still in service?

I hope that your real name isn't Joey - and that the VC10 wasn't captained by a Capt. Oveur?

Captain Oveur: You ever been in a cockpit before?
Joey: No sir, I've never been up in a plane before.
Captain Oveur: You ever seen a grown man naked?
Captain Oveur: Joey, have you ever been in a... in a Turkish prison?

Snooky has already posted a link, but I figured I might as well add this bit. For a view of a VC10 in Africa in its early days (1963-1965) have a look at this video:

Jhieminga : Thanks for that .... reminds me of when flying was glamorous, exciting, and fun, when passengers weren't treated like cattle. I remember doing Lagos - Kano - London, Johannesburg - Seychelles, and Blantyre - Amsterdam on VC10s.

The music .... so familiar but I can't put a name ot it ....

Music? Is it a variation on Bobby Goldsdboro;

SUMMER THE FIRST TIME.

It was a hot afternoon, the last day of June, and the sun was a demon

The clouds were afraid, one-ten in the shade, and the pavements were steamin'

I told Billy Ray in his red Chevrolet: needed time for some thinkin'
I was just walking by when I looked in her eye, and I swore it was winkin'

Thanks, I kept thinking that too but then it went off on another beat, as you say it's a variation.
