Hi there,

I'm a Canadian Citizen with a Canadian ATPL, 6000 hours and 850 hours on the Boeing 737-200A. I don't however have the JAA or a European licence.

If I had 1500 hours on transport category aircraft, would I still have to write the exams for the JAA or Euro licence or would it simply be a converion on Air Regs?

Would appreciate any help!

Thanks,

Schlep

You would need 3000hrs+ on the B737 (or similiar a/c)for a straight conversion, otherwise you have to sit and pass all the JAA exams.

As far as I know you may directly transfer your licences if you have more then 1500h on your commercial ticket. At any case, there shouldn’t be too much hassle for you. Do bare in mind though that no matter what agency you’re dealing with, be it FAA, CAA or JAA, they're all the same around the world and would probably give you about the same attitude anywhere. (With the exception off the few nice folks at those agencies) Good luck to you.

Thankyou for all your assistance, especially BIK_116.80!

Visual.....as far as your comments go, I would not have made the post if I was not sure of the requirements. Hence the reason I asked the question. Don't get mad at me because some "Chimp" got a higher mark than you did on the the exams....."Chump".

Cheers to the rest of you!

OK.....there ya go dude! There is a smile for ya! I misunderstood. You see, ever since Canada 3000 went under 2 months ago I have been idle. At the moment I have to explore all the options.

Thanks

As BIK_116.80 already mentioned, it´ very important you have 1500hrs PIC Time on your ATPL what kind of A/C you was flying it doesn’t matter (or almost).. .By the time I did my conversion I had already 2800 hrs as an F/O on 727 and 737, I had do sit in a classroom and study Air law and Weather, present al 14 Written, an CPL/IFR Check Ride and on top of it even had B1900, DC-3, B727 and B737 stamped on my Lic., all this A/C are Multi-Crew, I had to do an MCC course with Check Ride. Cost around US $ 15.000,-. .This was with the LBA (Germany), but with JAA is all about the same. I hope it helps you decide what to do.. . go for it
