Hi guys

There is quite a few guys working for CX who have elected to live on board a yacht/boat in HKG.

I was wondering if any of you know a bit more about this possibility in DXB.
The idea would be to take option 3 (outside company provided accommodation) and spend the money on the purchase of yacht to live on rather than living in an apartment.

I am quite aware of what it is like to live aboard so this is not so much what my question is about (although there maybe some DXB specifics ?).

- Would EK allow you to do it ?
- Are there many people doing it or none ? If none, why not (to your knowledge)
- Anybody with first hand experience (in DXB) ?

Thanks and please... avoid the bashing after post number 3 ;).

Not sure but I believe the Dubai Municipality dont allow it, limiting the the number of nights onboard to (I think) 14 per year.:ugh:

pain in the @rse I quite fancied it too:{

What's happened to the QE2? Perhaps there is a chance for a few nights on there!!

Also both the air and water temps for 4 months of the year render even the best marine AC useless in controlling the cabin temp.

Alwayz, don't know where that info comes from, but I doubt it's ever enforced. I certainly know of 1 senior skipper here that lived on his yacht (in Dubai's 'original' sailing club;)) for well over a year!

Depending on where you berth your boat, there may also be local Marina restrictions as to how many nights a month you can 'live aboard' your vessel. Dubai Marina certainly has a limit stated in my contract with them although I can't remember exactly how many per month is allowed..... clearly they don't wan't the 'tone' of the placed lowered by people hanging their undercrackers out to dry on the jetty!!

It is correct to say however that even the very best of AC units won't keep you with a cool head when it's 48c and 95% RH during the summer months!

Plenty of cheap villas and apartments are knocking around now, so you'd be best off looking there instead.:ok:

I keep my boat in Dubai. I don't know of any people living on their own yachts, but I know of some boat hands living aboard yachts that they work on. could there be any difference?

Hi all !

I had a friend who lived and still lives on a boat in DBX marina. It is allowed ang legal as fas as you pay the berth rent per year or monthly and your boat/yacht is insured + PAX no one can stop you ...

PS: you even can use marina postal address, so you feel home
