Hi guys just after some advice on PNG, I’m planning on going over for a week or so in the near future. I’m just wondering if anybody has any input for do's and dont's. Cheap/safe places to stay. Places to see, people to meet. I’ve done all the usual research but the internet can only provide so much. Rather ask people with real experience.

Thanks for the responses in advance.:ok:

Depends on where your going to be but as a general rule, try to stay in secure accomodation, stay away from the highlands, stay in at night and be careful of getting taxis. PNG is a beautiful place but be on your guard as anything can happen over there. Oh and make sure you get plenty of malaria meds for the trip (stay away from larium though)

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

The Airaways hotel in Moresby's OK, near the airport. Lae International is OK too, but Nadzab airport is 45 min drive north from there and rascals have been known to hijack cars and steal bags out of the back of utes when stopped in traffic.
Wash your hands after shaking with locals (conjunctivitus is rampant) & don't feel sorry for any of them and do not leave anything out of your sight for 1 second.
Anywhere that has barbed wire and security guards is safe to stay, usually.
Hang out with ex pats at yacht clubs etc. I don't advise travelling alone
It is a pretty place when you ignore what's around you.
Doxycylene for malaria.
Good luck
