340mm of rain in 24 hours and a cyclone forming over the top will do that.

I wonder what the military know about operating in weather that we civil people don't?

Capt Fathom
I've looked at the warnings, radar pictures, record rainfall at the airport.
Whats your point? Do you have one?
Or once again are you just out of your depth?

ozbiggles, I think Capt Fathom is more referring to the fact that it's not available to Civilian aircraft.

I agree with Fathom, why is it ONLY Civil aircraft who aren't allowed?

When YPLM was being affected by TC Bianca, the notams read a/d closed. Not differentiation b/w civil or military.

i'll just nip out, consult the tea leaves, and read my horoscope and then refer to BOM.

i would be guessing closed, given they've got it at a CAT2 at about 30km from the airport at 10am tomorrow.

make landing and taking off a little too interesting.

I departed about 2 hrs ago, a little rain wind 200/20 and didn't get above 20kts all the way to F370, I think they close the airport to allow the "workers" to go home and prepare, as there was absolutely no reason you couldn't continue with a normal schedule at this stage flying wise. The centre was pretty much over Darwin this morning, even now.
The QNH was 997, cyclone Carlos central pre sure is 996.

Airport closed again except for repositioning flights.

Where are they moving the aircraft to Tindal or Gove?

That would make sense. RAAF personnel live more or less on site don't they? No hassles to travel to/from work :)

Bloggs we were empty, allowed to depart on repositioning flights, can't carry pax:confused: +20ks:ok:
By workers I meant QF ground staff, the sunshine bus people at security, catering etc. We need them to do our job.
