Been lurking since thread began. Thought I was fairly well travelled, but am in humble awe here. I do have one photo I should like to post, not only to give experts some fun, but because I am very interested in whether anyone knows more information about the history of the place.

I never forgot about yours, Reg! I was going to say that you were first.

Is it Austrian? Are the women wearing some sort of traditional dress like they do in Austria on Sundays?

Are there eagles carved into the pillar? What's that gold animal on the pillar to the right? It's a blur.

Is the minaret this one?http://www.colin-julie.com/marrakech498.jpg

The Crater of Mt. Waialeale,Kauai.

Correct. I flew inside there on average 5 times a day for 7 years flying tours. It is the wettest place on earth, (depending upon how you measure it), receiving an average of 450 inches of rain per year.

This picture was taken after 7 inches of rain had fallen in the preceding 2 hours.

Unfortunately, it is also the site of two fatal helicopter crashes during my time there....one was weather related, the other one was pilot error.

larssnowpharter
10th May 2011, 16:04
Extruded clay (terracotta) leads me to think of Italy. If there were mountains in the background I would think 'lakes' but we could be looking south. Vegetation has that Italian feel to it as well.

I think Italy.

Italy is spot on. Could we be a little more specific?

It is on the left hand side, not the right hand side.

Capetonian

It could be Costa Liguria, Alassio, but if you hadn't said left hand side (West -I assume you mean looking from the bottom, or boot, up) I'd still say lakes. There is no shadow to indicate orientation and the picture was taken at midday when the sun would have been high in the sky anyway.

Is there snow in the foreground or is it a white fence? It seems to be the latter as if it were snow I would expect to see footsteps up to the door.

I'm going to guess it's the residence of a British Ambassador somewhere, the building style is probably North American.

That troubles me a bit, Wodrick, because although I am no expert in matters Christian, I think that Westminster Abbey is not a cathedral.
I think it is an Abbey. I get the clue from the name. There is I believe a Westminster Cathedral but it belongs to a different section of that faith.
In the anglican line there are St Paul's and Southwark.
I was quite thrown off the scent by that, I think, inaccuracy.

Draper, don't go away! Most locations I posted were identified as fast or faster.

It's a balance between fairly easy and impossible.

Which reminds me, there's a highway underpass that allows a stream to run its natural course, with colorful graffiti sprayed on its walls by local teenagers. The odds of anyone other than the sprayistas (to invent a word) recognizing it are slim. I saw it when following the stream uphill for fun. I've wanted to take photos, but haven't yet.
