I agree with some of these assessments. I wish they were alive to ask them why they thought this was worthy of FILM, which was not cheap overseas and still had to be processed. I thought about not even scanning it, but then I figured they cared enough to make the shot (for some unknown reason) so I could invest the 4-5 minutes to copy it.

I think that you'll find finfly1's post #8996 is of Castillo San Felipe del Morro in San Juan, Puerto Rico, looking towards the castle from the south. Part of the castle is obscured by the building on the left. To the east (right) is open water, while the harbour entrance is to the west (left). Old San Juan would be directly behind the photographer.

It looks like a model/prototype of a train route. I did look up few railways and this looks as if Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The building looks it could be a temple.

When I searched further, I came upon a movie made featuring this railway. "The Darjeeling Limited". Did not see the flick so not sure.

Then it must be Darjeeling. I thought Simla as I found this but misread the caption. Doh!

However, when he arrives at work, his office is actually located in Old Montreal. I figure they did this just to be able to show the bridge and get that slow pan shot across the Montreal skyline. [He's actually driving towards Montréal. Notice that La Ronde is shown in back, then the cantilever part of the bridge which Oz is driving towards. It then shows Mount Royal and the skyline, which is all part of Montréal where he's driving to.]

It's difficult, in this case we have an OP whose profile says he is in Singapore, probably about to have breakfast, then there are the guys from the USA and the Europeans all on different time zones. This guy is a new participant who hasn't grasped it yet. I think OH is in order.

Self moderation and Group Conscience has always worked on this thread. I can't actually recall any Moderator having to step in except when some uncalled for banter arose with some folks who (by no coincidence) no longer participate.

Save for that, this thread runs pretty smoothly. As Wodrick suggested, given that we are spread the globe, declaring that the guess was correct by the submitter may take some time, so if evidence is presented with the guess, or if the guess is seconded by another player, I suggest that would be satisfactory approval to continue and the correct guesser may post. If they wish to abstain or have gone off grid, Open House rules should apply.

We've also had two submisisons at the same time and the world didn't come to an end. So, if someone wants to post one while we wait for gb777 to resurface, I see no harm.

Back to the puzzle. No, it's not South Africa. Here's a clue: In the photo I'm facing south-west, and the piece of land projecting into the sea is a runway. Shortly after I took the photo, the only 4 engined wide-body daily service from that airport took off, heading east.

Is that right? If it is, it was just because it reminded me of the view from the hills when I was there a few years ago, but it could have been almost anywhere. To be honest, if that's the right answer, it was just a lucky intuitive reaction. I'm surprised at myself.

Yeah, sorry, last week was a business trip back to the Mother Ship in Seattle and now just winding down a "stay at home" vacation. I'll get back into it within the next few days. There is a trigger after which you are considered responsible and your posts are not vetted. Like 11 says wander up to SLF and ask a couple of questions, the barking dog in an A320 is a good one ! get the count up and all will be ok. This is a relatively new thing (the vetting) and easy to get round.

Back to the photos, the architecture in the first one looks rather southern European, but I can't think of a canal with locks amidst that type of scenery. It may be somewhere near Marseille as those rock formations are similar to some in that region.

And no, I'm not a mod, and I know svhar's comment was in jest, I hope nobody would think I was such a bad loser!

Googs told me that it is a biggest Slovak carnival/festival in Zilina. The festivities are in celebration of the end of winter and coming spring.
