Reduced length take-off

The other day, on an A319, we departed runway 15 at BHX from "B". I know that with our lightish load and the fairly strong wind it was all well within limits and of course theoretically perfectly safe. I am also aware that it's not uncommon at major airports - but they do boast much longer runways. Nevertheless, my daddy always used to say (about runways that is), "if you have it - use it"! I'm not intending any criticism here, just simply inviting professional opinion. [Food for thought: what would have been the outcome of the HS-748 accident at STN if for example they had taken a shorter length?]

Enough is enough.. . All take offs' are worked out for performance, this includes loss of an engine prior to (on short runways usually more limiting, because of Vmcg)and from V1.. . Operationally it often saves a lot of time to do intersection departures.
