Off topic and deep in the realms of trivia; however,

I understood that 600(City of London) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force had the unique privilege of parading 2 squadron standards (one official and one 'unofficial' that should only be paraded within the boundary of the City of London). I did not believe that either of these standards was a Queen's Colour - it is certainly not listed as one in AP3327. However, the picture on the Squadron's website shows the standards' escorts and Warrant Officer dressed as if they were in a Queen's/Sovereign's Colour Party - ie sashes worn by escorts and sash and sword worn by WO. Is the picture of the Squadron’s 'unofficial' standard being paraded alongside the Sovereign's Colour for the Royal Auxiliary Air Force or have the Squadron decided to add extra ‘bling’ to the escorts to their Squadron standards.

Dull references from AP1358

Chapter 2 (http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafcms/mediafiles/9645FADA_EE31_9299_8E899FC7FA734D14.pdf):0209. Blue Sash. The following personnel are authorised to wear the blue sash on the occasions shown:

a. Officers employed as HM the Queen’s Gentlemen Ushers.

b. Officers when employed on AFB ushering duties.

c. WOs and SNCOs of the Queens Colour Squadron when on parade.

d. IOT and recruit training instructors at established recruit or trade training establishments. It is only to be worn whilst on parade.

e. WOs and SNCO escorts to Queens Colours, (does not apply to Sqn standards).

Chapter 9 (http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafcms/mediafiles/964916B1_92D8_58D3_000CB14A10495884.pdf): 0913. WOs are only to wear swords when parading as a member of a colour party escorting a Queen's Colour or as Bandmasters. This privilege does not apply on any other ceremonial occasion or to members of squadron standard parties.

The photo on the 600 Squadron website does indeed show the Sovereign's Colour for the Royal Auxiliary Air Force (left) and the unofficial Squadron standard (right). See RAF Reserves - 600 (City of London) (http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafreserves/rolesandsquadrons/600cityoflondon.cfm)

The latter standard is known as the Collett's Standard and was presented to 600 Squadron by Lady Collett, wife of the Lord Mayor of London in 1935. The Standard was in memory of her son, Sqn Ldr Stanley Beresford Collett, OC 600 Sqn, who had been killed in a flying accident the previous year.

Although 600 Squadron has only one, unofficial, standard, it is the only RAF squadron with two official badges.

Just come across this, I know it's a very old thread but is 600 actively recruiting at the moment for ex officers?

Ladies, Gents.

Be aware that there is a new policy regarding FTRS. Currently, newly appointed FTRS posts have to pay the higher SLA/SFA charges if they unable to live in their own homes locally and require service accom; so much for parity of reserves and their regular counterparts. Totally flawed policy :ugh:, the implications of which are being felt throughout the RAF - shortages of QFI's and other critical posts to RAuxAF manning. However the new policy states that if a post is advertised and there are no applicants then it is to be re-advertised a second time and if there are still no applicants then the Sqn concerned can apply to MOD for an exemption via RFMC and the post will then be advertised with an exemption from the SLA/SFA charges....................again a flawed rectification that will take circa 10 months to recruit for critical posts relied upon by the MOD.......so If you really want to join...I would suggest waiting for the 3rd iteration and speaking to the Sqn Adj to see if there is any competition on the earlier rounds.
