ErwinS 25th Jan 2011, 18:53 Now that 9G-AXC has left OST to ACC does anyone has more info if she is now active in Africa?
Heard also that the next DC-8 to leave should be AXD and after that AXA.
Rgds,
ErwinS
Continued ops in Africa, from what I've heard...second hand.
MKA742 26th Jan 2011, 08:21 Another Meridian plane leaving today :D
This time to Fujaira. Not sure what the plan is. I believe its 9G-AXA but I'll check when I go spot it later. Luckily the flight is delayed cause the weather is crap out here. And I forgot to bring my HD camera tooo :ugh:
Check here: één - teletekst (http://teletekst.een.be/tt_een.php?p=383&g=on&s=1&r=0&x=1)
MKA742 26th Jan 2011, 11:25 It 9G-AXD and she left at 12:36L.
3 to go :P
ErwinS 26th Jan 2011, 15:28 So it is AXD wich is now gone from OST. A shame they are leaving....
hydroplane 26th Jan 2011, 19:48 Meridian Banned from UK on 23/7/10, from Belgium from 28/7/10, over safety issues. Added on EU ban list on 2/9/10. AOC suspended 11/10. Added on EU ban list on 23/11/10.
AXD to be stored in FJR
dionysius 27th Jan 2011, 08:21 What's happened to the old Iris/United Arabian aircraft (not sure of the reg) ?
Is it allowed to remain/operate in EU ?
MKA742 27th Jan 2011, 09:15 Oh yes! It is the last (proper) DC-8 flying around europe. I hope they will keep ik active for a while to come. :D
If I'm not wrong she had a C check end of last year. Saw here twice in OST already since I got back from Namibia.
Last flights she did were ACE103 to Havana via Canada and last left to Sebha with horses.
Just search the regular sites for 9G-AED.
Video on my channel @<hidden> youtube soon, when I get this AVCHD editing right... :ugh:
ErwinS 27th Jan 2011, 14:38 AXD stored at FJR? Why would you do that... Make her airworthy again and then fly her to FJR for further storage??
I"ve had hoped they found some work for them.
free863 31st Jan 2011, 06:17 Some people should check their sources before spreading false information....
AXD won't be store in FJR, they will fly in Africa for some time until Europe lift the ban... it will take some time but the maintenance paperwork, etc,... improved a lot!!
FJR is just a cheap parking spot btw Africa and Asia....!
ans also, AXD, she's in a pretty good shape....and flying good
Happy landings
free863 31st Jan 2011, 08:48 AXD....! she is flying...
ErwinS 31st Jan 2011, 11:44 I realy hope that Meridian will get there stuff together and will be back operating within the EU.
But why wasn't the maintenance good from the start?
They should have known that if you fly with vintage DC-8's from OST you will get inspections from the CAA.... with the resulting ban.
MKA742 18th Feb 2011, 18:14 I wonder how many rules are broken by any other operator... I'm certain they inspect a DC8 in more detail then a newer plane, just because it looks older.
Anyway, any spottings on the Meridians lately?:} And AED? Ive been waiting for her to try and film her better this time, haven't seen the old lady since the flight to Sebha :(
AED has been parked at MSE since 23rd Jan, awaiting its next mission.
good spark 18th Feb 2011, 20:16 EGMH
and your point is?
gs
MKA742 posted..And AED?
He/She seemed to be inquiring where AED was, hence my reply that she was at MSE.
Zeflo27 19th Feb 2011, 11:57 9G-AXD Meridian Airways DC-8-63F
9G-AED Air Charter Express DC-8-62F
Different birds, different companies.

gs
MKA742 21st Feb 2011, 10:13 Indeed.. Thanks. That's a long time, hope she will fly soon...
Bergkamp10 25th Feb 2011, 13:26 Yep different companies both, and both doing a sterling job...
MKA742 20th May 2011, 05:15 Anything????
ErwinS 20th May 2011, 15:16 9G-AED is stored at Manston so Air Charter Express seems to be bust?
Meridian has now two active birds. one in Africa and the other in the Middle Eas.
9G-AXC was noted active last April at Abu Dhabi.
MKA742 22nd May 2011, 18:48 AED stored!!???? :ugh::{:\:mad:
Bye bye DC8, I will miss them.... Classic era of aviation is officially over :(
All I can hope for is to see the National 63 or ZS-OSI now... Slim chance...
ErwinS 22nd May 2011, 19:25 Indeed very sad. The site of Air Charter Express is now also down.... Homepage (http://www.dc8cargo.com)
Maybe AED will be picked up by another operator.
Meridian was busy trying to get off the EU black list but that chance looks slim.
AXA,AXB and AXD are all stored now for a long time at OST.
Sahafreak 24th May 2011, 19:13 From whom is the info that AXA, AXB and AXD are stored now for long
time in OST ???
For example AXD is already flown out of OST to Fujairah !
AXE is the third one still in OST
ErwinS 25th May 2011, 07:14 Sorry typo.... AXE is still at OST.
Jess-8 12th Jun 2011, 12:33 Is there any news regarding MAG ATM?
EIDFZ 16th Jun 2011, 10:42 Heard from a good source 9GAED has been sold to Hanover Aviation to work along side ZSOSI from Manston, still life in the old birds yet.:ok: Z
dionysius 16th Jun 2011, 12:57 Was'nt osi operated by stars away in cape town ?
Twitcher 17th Jun 2011, 10:28 ZS-OSI is currently parked alongside 9G-AED at Manston
hunty 19th Jun 2011, 09:34 Gents
I'm informed that ZS-OSI was crew training at Manston yesterday
Hunty :8
spannerman01 6th Aug 2011, 02:37 Hello any info on whom owns OSI and how to contact them?
I am dc-8 aircraft engineer
Web site address below
STARS AWAY INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES - Home (http://www.saiflycargo.co.za/)
spannerman01 7th Aug 2011, 15:23 thank you very m,uch for the info, I would like to know as well any info to contact hanover aviation, thank you very much.
ErwinS 8th Aug 2011, 06:00 google : Hanover Aviation (http://www.hanoveraviation.com/)
dionysius 23rd Aug 2011, 08:15 What's the latest on the old girls, have they picked up a contract or are they still parked up at Manston ??:ok:
Meridian Airways where never parked in Manston, that is Air Charter Express. That Aircraft has been sold to Stars Away of South Africa. Meridian currently has two aircraft flying. One that has had extensive maintenance carried out & is ready to depart Ostende. One that is currently undergoing maintenance & one awaiting its maintenance input.
dionysius 23rd Aug 2011, 09:41 Sorry, should have made my question clearer, it was these 2 old girls that I was enquiring about ;)
ZS-OSI is currently parked alongside 9G-AED at Manston
Twitcher 30th Aug 2011, 08:38 ZS-OSI has been in and out of Manston a couple of times. 9G-AED departed for a C check on 15th July.
hollywood285 31st Aug 2011, 17:49 we all do!!!!
Ostend seems to be a dumping ground for these great aircraft!! was there the other week, one of them had all the enginesw removed!
MKA742 8th Sep 2011, 18:49 What's your problem??
First of all, care's is short for 'care is', which makes no sense.
We are trying to track the last few DC8s around, leave us be.
Great to hear AED is being looked after! But is it bought by Stars Away or Hanover Aviation now?? Hope she gets a new paint too :ok:
Meridian DC8 just departed Ostend, 3 down 2 to go.
MKA742 15th Sep 2011, 16:08 Had to work
No HD video... If someone cares...
The other 2 don't seem anywhere near flying condition yet. I wonder if they will even depart. Would HATE to have mist the very last DC8 at Ostend...
steelbranch 9th Mar 2012, 09:15 Old thread I know, but thought some of you might be interested in hearing about 9G-AXD. She's based out of NBO (JKIA) at the moment, bringing relief supplies to Mogadishu for UNICEF. Up to December last year, they were running two to four rotations a day. Also a second Meridian DC8 is based at NBO but I don't have its reg just now.
Cheers,
SB.
ErwinS 9th Mar 2012, 10:43 Should be 9G-AXA I believe. Good to hear that they are still flying.
On a sidenote, Johnson/Airlift 9G-TOP was seen active this month at Zagreb:-)
